Jan Levine: Rangers rally behind Panarin/Shesterkin to defeat Islanders 3-2 in shootout
Final regular season game Monday vs. Ottawa

Hey Jan, good to see you're still here blogging. That was just a tremendous Hockey game in general yesterday afternoon. The Isles threw everything at us and were desperate for that 2nd point but the Rangers perseveered.

I will admit post 2020 my fandom dipped like never before. I was always all in every game ever since the 1986 season but came back last year during the playoffs and TBH just forgot about this great hockeybuzz community. Fully back as a excited Ranger fan it struck me to return for a few weeks but finally signed back on yesterday.

This team has guts, talent & that IT factor that CAN win a Stanley Cup. Fingers & toes crossed as we all anything can happen and usually does in the Playoffs.

If Lavy doesn’t trust Rempe in tight games, we can forget about him playing in the playoffs, and I’m not necessarily saying that’s a bad thing. Kid still has a lot to work on before he can be trusted in those types of games.

IF, and that’s a big IF, Chytil comes back for the playoffs, I think you have to put him with Kreider and Zib. No one else has worked there and then bump Roslovic down to the 3rd line. Cuylle would add some toughness to the 4th line with Goodrow and Vesey.

I caught the game yesterday down here in key west. It was definitely nail biter. I think as fans we have a different mentality when it comes to games. Since the rangers clinched they seem rather slow out of the gate. It’s also happen quite a bit this year. That’s my one concern for this team. Being ready. But that’s Lavys job. The fishsticks are a pain in the arse for us. Let’s hope they win Monday and finish what has been a great season.

A lot of it has to do with how disciplined NYI played us in the last 2 games (sarcasm). Penalties were 8-3. 5-1 just yesterday. Both of the NYI goals yesterday were preceded or aided by uncalled penalties

Somebody has to explain the logic behind a guy on the isles thread saying yesterday’s game ending in a shoot out is a travesty! What about the other FIFTEEN loser points they have? Are all of those a travesty too? I don’t like the shootout and loser points either but that is being hypocritical!

They need to exhaust every option possible, including removing Kreider too, to figure out how to get that line, mainly Mika, scoring 5v5. If Chytil really is ready for the playoffs, put him at LW... and do what you said, bump Kreider with Wennberg, Cuylle with Goodrow. Retroactive to this, Id put Kakko up on RW1 because he has played with Mika, and played ALOT with Chytil.

Heres why I think this works... Mika like to cheat to the left side to put himself in a shooting position, Chytil likes to play in the middle and Kakko is a pretty good possession guy. For the same reason, why I think Wennberg could work at LW on that line as well if Chytil isnt ready to go.

Not that I want ties back like the old days but these shootouts do nothing for me anymore & as far as the Islanders go they've lost 16 games now in OT or shootouts, thst's a lot of loser points.

I'll say this as exciting as it would be I'm gonna pass on wanting to see the Isles in Round 1. For a top seed that would be a real grind of a 1st round opponent.

I thought Millers stick clearly held on one of those. I was surprised he didn’t react.

Anything can happen but the wings have a b2b with the Canadiens to finish the season while WSH has Boston and PHI and also PIT is behind by a point

I think we’re at a best case scenario..getting home ice/prez trophy…Islanders finishing 3rd to pound to the Canes in a series for us…we get Detroit, caps or pens where we SHOULD be able to handle either of the 3. Hopefully in 5 games or less and are fresher for the next series. Isles canes going 7 is possible which would be beneficial

We just have to beat Ottawa tho lol

Kinda dont want to deal with the Pens, theyre the ones I think that could give us the biggest challenge of the 3. Furthermore, playing the Pens also means were playing against the refs too.

It’s too late to separate Kreider and Mika. That’s not an experiment I want to start at the start of the playoffs. Rotating who their other winger is until something works is a lot more subtle.

What worries me is its not even Kreider's fault because nothing has changed about what he does and how he does it over the last 3+ years. My fear is the Mika were seeing this year, is more or less, the real Mika and the one we saw last year was a blip.

However, Im going to give Mika the benefit of the doubt because theres essentially no RW on that line.

He has had 5 different RW's and Panarin has played there also, he still sucks 5v5 this year.

Carolina loss would be nice, but I'm more worried about getting top seed in the conference and avoiding TB. Boston plays the Capitals and then the Sens on the tail end of a back to back with us. We need at least a point tomorrow to avoid that.

Maybe hawks can get a point today then all we need is a point. I just can’t see us not annihilating Ottawa tomorrow. Like 6-1 or something
