Some previous posts about Rockey/PP and Torts’ hunches and OT strategy. Hindsight is 20/20 but we all saw this much earlier in the season.

1) The PP has been inept all year yet nothing was ever seemingly done to address it. Madness. Off puck, the players look like orange traffic cones out there. Been that way all year. Did they not watch film and practice the PP?

2) OT is for winning. The consolation prize is already guaranteed in OT. Playing it conservatively makes zero sense. Play OT to score first, not to be not scored against. Again, puzzling that that’s how the coach seemed to approach it all year.

3) Still baffled by the acquisition of Johnson, the playing of Cam at all in the second half of the season, the overuse of Couturier, the calling up then sitting players like Attard, Ginning, Lyksell. All are head scratchers.

Those are the reasons in my humble opinion as to why this team is on the outside looking in right now. A few more PP goals, a couple more OT wins instead of losses, and maybe a little less Cam/Johnson and a little bit more younger guys with more energy and maybe there’s a little bit more in the tank.

That being said, theee are a lot of positives to take out of this year:
York looks like the real deal if he can co time to develop;
Foerester is an NHL goal scorer with 30-40 goal potential;
Lyksell can be a really good bottom 6;
Frost belongs in the NHL as a middle 6;
Tippett can fly and has 40 goal potential;
Brink, Attard, Ginning, and Zemula have earned the right to have a legit shot to be regulars next year. If Ginning and Attard stick around we could do a lot worse than those two as our 3rd pairing.
Ersson is an NHL goalie. Is he a 1, 1A or backup? Unsure but the kid has skill.

I’m done

Neither player has come close to those scoring totals - tf just broke 20 and ot has yet to score 30 goals in the NHL

Foerster had a solid rookie goal scoring season even with the slow start. Tippett has to improve his offensive play significantly to be a 40 goal scorer. At least consistently in that range.

Tippett is an interesting player. He reminds me of Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh. At times he’s amazing and at others he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of an f’n boat.

That is true. That’s why I say “potential”. They still have to take the next step or two or three but it seems like the ability is there.

And just like that, Chicago would become dominant again within two years of tanking

I think many things worked against Tippett this season. The kid was on an absolute role prior to his injury. Once he returned, he lost steam. The majority of his goals on the power play last season came from the left half wall. So our power play coach naturally thought it would be a smart idea to put him on the right side for the majority of the season. The last issue if you can call it an issue. Tippett knows how to create offense on his own and I think the coaching staff wants him to get away from that and use his teammates. I say just feed him.

Tippett has to add more elements to his offensive game than just beating guys one on one to get to a 40 goal level. I'm not sure he has that in him.

Any good goal scorer has to be consistent hitting the net, even if that means not scoring and creating rebounds.

The majority of NHL players can miss the net 40 times trying to hit that tiny little spot then finally hit it once. Hell Laughton has had a couple nice snipes in his career, that doesn't make him a goal scorer.

Flyers have a lot of forwards with goal scoring potential, including Tippett, but they need to focus on their shot release and accuracy during the offseason. Miss the net by 1/4 inch or 10 feet...still the same result.

I'm not feeling that for Tippett. Has a long way to go for that. 25-30 for sure.

Both players mentioned would do better, as with the rest of the wingers on this team, if they had centers that can create and back people off.

I don't understand how Tippett is not on the left half boards firing pucks on the PP. They had him at the right point or right half boards most of the season. It made no sense. Seemed like most good teams took their best right handed shooting forward and placed him on the left half boards and get him shots. The Flyers did not like that strategy apparently.

Instead they put him on the point so he can shoot into defenders. I guess the strategy is injure the other team so they are short players?

Should've been doing the same with Foerster for one timers galore.

I just Gauthier’s interview prior to the Denver game. The way this kid is talked up, you’d think he’d never lost or shutout before.

It was just odd. They wanted to setup Frost to come off the left half boards and shoot a wrister. I would have thought having Frost on the right half boards would have better used his passing ability. I guess they only wanted players on their strong side on the half boards. Weird because it did not stop teams like Rangers with Zibs, BOS with Pasta, and WSH with Ovi firing pucks with right handed forwards shooting from the left half boards. Not suggesting the PP would have been top 10, but I am not buying they are historically the worst PP in the league and team history because of a talent issue on the ice.

Actually, there is more net to hit when you are shooting from your off wing. I was a right wing during my playing days, but always enjoyed those opportunities when you are coming down the left wing...especially for one timers.

Atkinson is deadman skating. He literally skated himself into the boards yesterday and fell down at one point. Although on a positive note he took that ridiculously bad penalty that led to the shorty for TK!

- Phillywhiteout

😂😂😂
I saw that and literally said "why TF is he even out there!?" But then had to eat my words when he took that awful penalty and TK scored
At least we were SH and not on a PP.
We have a way better chance of scoring on the PK

I agree with all of this but particularly what you said about OT. We've already got at least a point. Wtf are we doing defending in OT?!
