Time to pray to the hockey gods to have mercy on our souls. All mighty hockey gods, please make some bounces be favorable to MTL and NJD on Monday and/or let their goalies stand on their heads and/or the DET and NYI goalies be full of holes. |

I think Ned was pulled a goal too early. The Shattenkirk shot was a perfectly placed shot and Ned had a bunch of good saves prior to it. It’s like Sully was sitting there looking for a reason to get Jarry in. We all knew Jarry was going to let one in early, I would have stuck it out with Ned. |

EK is actually really good defensively 1-1 with guys. His puck management from the top of his circles to the far blueline is just disastrous. Too the point I’d be reluctant to even play him in these final two games. |

Ah, the roller coaster ride that is being a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins... two days ago I was sure they were going to make the playoffs. Now I am not very confident at all. I have a feeling they are going to go into that last game in Long Island having a shot and then shoot themselves in the foot. It would be par for the course this year. Even if they make it can anyone really see them winning many games in the playoffs with the way they play defense? It's more likely to be a sweep.
If they miss then we give away out first rounder and hopefully, HOPEFULLY clean house with the coaching staff. Then Dubas can try to retool. If really think if Sully is back next season they are going to be worse.
Fire coaching staff.
Trade Smith ASAP.
Trade Jarry
Trade Rackell
C YA Jeff Carter
Try to trade Karlsson
And patch things up with Mario

They could definitely trade Jarry. He makes average money for a starter and he'd be an upgrade in net for at least 10 teams. (His cap hit is currently 11th for goalies, but after July 1 that will drop to middle of the pack.) |

Im not saying to fire Sullivan because I dont think it'll happen and because I dont think a better alternative is out there. I do think its time to purge the assistant coaches and start again.
The reality for this team - Karlsson, Rakell, Jarry, Graves, etc. arent going anywhere. As I've said about Jarry all year, anyone who had a chance to sign him and chose not to isnt going to trade for him with that contract.
So that's 4 players that have a lot of money tied up between them. Karlsson and Rakell arent completely useless, but you can only hope Graves has a Martin/Gonchar like rebound in his second season in Pittsburgh. Jarry isnt the guy. He is a streaky goalie that when he is playing well, sure, you can play him... but when he is hurt or dreadful, you better have a reliable #2. Not sure what the plan is if they feel like our WBS guy is ready. Not sure I want to risk next season with Jarry and a rookie goalie.
The #1 goal of Dubas this offseason is to get more scoring depth. We cant expect Crosby and Malkin to do this again next year. You need to dump the passengers and replace them with legitimate options either via trade or free agency. Smith and Carter both need to go. That's a nice chunk of change back to reinvest

I guarantee there's a better alternative out there for this team. It's a shame they're willing to ignore his playoff record since his last cup win.
I think they could find a taker for Jarry, but yeah, those other guys will all be back. |

It largely depends on whether you think the players are open to a change in philosophy and its the coach preventing it... or do you think the players arent open to a change and the coach is... or if you're like me and you think neither of them are open to changing how they play.
At the end of the day, these core players are who they are. They arent going to change their style or how they go into games (except maybe Crosby). Karlsson, Letang, and Malkin are always going to play that high risk/high reward hockey. I dont think changing the coach will impact that.
Likewise, i dont see a coach available that would have the guts to sit a Karlsson/Malkin/Letang when they become out of control in games like Karlsson has been lately. Sullivan was never going to sit him down and I get it. |

Sullivan is safe for another year, maybe two. He isn't lasting three. Dubas already has a couple guys in mind. Who they are only he knows. We should get a clue soon.
Sullivan runs goaltenders into the ground. I have no evidence to back that up. It does seem to me that no matter who it's been at the tail end of the season our main guy is either hurt or gassed. Especially the two years we won, first MAF lost the starting job to Murray. The second year Murray was injured and MAF bailed him out. Jarry can be traded, you aren't getting value in return but he can be traded.

I'd like to add the main goal of Dubas is to get us younger. He has already stated that and the only way to do that is to not sign fourth line veterans this off season.
What we desperately need is more net front presence. Guys like Michael Bunting and Jack St Ivany are a good start. More needs to be done here. |

He's an average starter who has proven he crumbles in March and April. I guess if a team doesn't care about making the playoffs he'd be a decent pickup, but I can't see any team ponying up anything of much value for him. |

Craig Berube. I think he would be like hey let’s practice the defensive zone and a 5 man break out today. Then some work on the PP. we will conclude practice by practicing 3-3. That would be better. |

Yeah, agreed, but still an upgrade for about 10 teams. There just aren't nearly enough good goalies.
I don't expect they'd get anything of value back, but that wouldn't be the point of such a trade, they'd just be clearly out some cap room to extend Ned and add a backup. |

You're right, we aren't getting much back in a Jarry trade.
The team that comes to mind is Edmonton. I don't know how confident they are with Skinner. I know Campbell is done there. Campbell would be a good backup to Ned, letting Blomqvist play in the AHL. Then if Ned gets injured, under Sullivan that always seems to happen, Blomqvist can step in and be the starter. Effectively making him the backup. Campbell the number three.
Of course, Edmonton would have to add to make this a fair deal, since this is a salary dump for them. Maybe they'll add Graves to the deal. |
