Just a reminder that the Detroit Red Wings selected Filip Zadina with the 6th overall pick in the 2018 draft after everyone expected they'd take the local defenseman. That local defenseman, selected one pick later, has more assists this year than any Wings players has in points, and is just 19 points shy of the career point totals of that 6th pick.

That was a horrible pick for Detroit. I liked Zadina, but you can’t compare the two. I do think the drafting of Seider takes some of the sting out, but Hughes was a huge opportunity missed. I like what we’re seeing out of Eddy’s development and Sandin Pelikka. I hope Detroit addresses the right side this summer to give Edvinsson a linemate to help smooth out the gaps a little

I agree. Seeing veterans open their homes to help prospects get settled and then building a culture where a young guy like Seider would do the same says a lot about a player caring deeply about the team long term. People are coming overseas now for the clinic he does in Waterford. I’m about 20 min away from that facility, may try to catch some of the sessions if possible this year

Sporting the fishbowl?

Should be a fun game to watch, meaningless game for us and I expect the Wings to come hard at us.

Draper and friends likely won't admit it, but they probably never even prepared for Zadina being there at 6. Most of the leadup to the draft was debating which type of d-man fit the organization. Dynamic, but small Hughes. More dependable Dobson. Bouchard was a mix of the two. The thinking was...Hughes probably isn't available at 6, but the other two should be.

But then Montreal and Arizona surprise everyone, and not only are all 3 d-men available, but so is Zadina. Draper seemed totally unprepared and just panicked. I was at the draft and saw the Canucks table laughing at the Zadina pick. They couldn't believe Hughes slid to 7.

0-2 Already. I was afraid of this happening.

Do the red wings know they have to win this game as they look like they don’t really care. Team totally not ready. Hope they wake up soon, before it’s too late. Would be really embarrassing to be knocked out at home to a non playoff team.
