How many games series do they play?
Berggren's OT goal in the box score had no assists listed, Mazur must have had his Klingon cloak of invisibility on!

BERGGREN has a lot more trade value than just a little while ago! Pick out that shiny new 2nd line C!!! (He will need a pick to accompany him) like Berggren and a 1st for McTavish.

I haven’t heard anything. Husso is having serious health issues and i don’t know that draft picks have been settled yet. Lotto is coming up

This whole narrative about a Berggren contract stalemate assumes he has a promising NHL future. Remember when guys like Jurco, Pulkkinen, Frk, Ferraro looked great in the AHL but none of that translated to the NHL. I remember.

To be frank, I’ll be surprised if an extension takes place. The follow up has been to address several back and forth exchanges in the comments. As far as I’ve been informed (2nd party, not internally) an extension offer was made. My assumption is that he would have the chance to play on the team but if he couldn’t lock down a spot it could be a waiver wire situation. For whatever reason, the extension wasn’t signed. I (personal opinion) don’t think Detroit and JB are on the same page in terms of usage/dispatch at the NHL level. He and Veleno could well be battling for the same depth spot and (in my mind) Veleno would win at this point. I did have someone reach out saying they’d heard of a trade request by JB, and that he was part of a deal that didn’t come to fruition at the TDL. Yzerman only acknowledged a deal came close but didn’t mention the pieces.

Others on the site (and in the fan base) believe he should be part of the main team and there is some back and forth. Looking at his usage this year (or lack thereof) my gut leans to a parting of ways or a potential scenario of signing an extension and battling for a depth role.

So is there anything that makes you think he will NOT have a promising future in the NHL ? The kid has to actually get a chance to play there. I'm not seeing any red flags yet. At a minimum he is excellent trade bait. If he keeps putting up points in the playoffs his value will go up... assuming the Griffins can keep winning. We'll see how it all plays out. He's a lock to be in Detroit next season (as he should be if he gets extended), along with Edvinsson and Johanssen (who will not be waiver exempt). I'm assuming most of the UFA's Yzerman signed last season will be gone this coming season. Time to let the kids play and let the young talent take the reins.
