I think the Leafs have no choice but to run it back.
Tavares and Marner contracts are up, that's when the real change will occur. - dmnted
Hayes on Overdrive said "what would Vegas do?" in this situation. His point was they would make it happen one way or another, and that they also do not let fear of losing a trade cripple them from moving on from something that wasn't working.
The Leafs DO have a choice. Question is do they have the stones to go down that road. |

Things they could do:
* Ask them for a list of teams
* Ask them for list of teams with stern voice
* Move their parking spots to far end of parking lot
* Take away their letters
* Boot them from PP
* Play them on the 4th line
Is there something else? The last two seem most stone-ish but amount to overkill as a way of dealing with good players who will be off the books in a year anyway. |

Exactly. Vegas is an aggressive mover and shaker, so are the Rangers and Florida. With Leafs best players in their prime it’s no time to screw around, figure it out. Leafs had the door of opportunity last year. Whoever made the call to run it back again, screwed the team for years. When you demand, when you squeeze, every last penny that you can get, out of the team……which I believe two of the core did, then there are expectations for results. |

As an outdoors type, I'd enjoy that part of it.

I think the only thing that can stop it is Marners NMC.
I think they find a place for him and a good trade.
The 8th year is important. |

Willie wasnt signed by xmas.
If marner is racking up the points, i dont see him getting booed. - Fakepartofme
Difference is, people will know Marner is on his way out, Willie was just squeezing for dollars. There a lot more Marner hate than Willie. Maybe a Shanahan sucks chant will become popular. Will be interesting. |

At the least, they have to approach MM and JT and see what the appetite is for moving. After that maybe their hands are tied!? I see some tough days in the next year and some tough questions as it unfolds. Lots of fodder for the media. |

Agree mostly, they might approach Marner with a short term deal at the same pay. It's really the JT contract that is an overpay. When JT signed, most knew the last year or two of that contract could be painful. With Brodie off the books, Leafs have enough cap space to add a quality d-man without trading Marner.

Why would they chant that? Unless Treliving (frank)s up this summer the Leafs with Marner and JT will be a good regular season team and fans will enjoy seeing them win most nights. That’s what they care about when paying out big bucks to go to a game. If anything happens it’s Shanny getting shown the door after a playoff loss. |

Is this quality dman gonna do all the scoring in the playoffs? |

Right?
That is and continues to be the biggest issue come playoffs. Sure improvements on D and between the pipes would be great but they have lost multiple playoff series now due to a lack of scoring and this year was no different. |

fair point
Boudreau was talking about no team more than he was talking about the Leafs
"If you want something, don't just go out there and THINK you want it. Go out there and (frank)ING want it"
There is no excuse for that PP when they are icing 40M. |

I go one step further and specifically look at the PP. When they finally see why that is an abysmal failure, then they can start to change this team. |

Now I think the lack of a threat on the PP is a big issue but also the predictability of the Leafs PP is another.
Not sure if that’s a systems thing - must be because they have JT, Matthews and Willy all of whom should be shooting threats.
They also don't move the puck around quickly enough on the power play IMO.
