I dont know anything about Coaching. if its down to these 2 options...

Me too ...I kind of think the magic in "coaching" is the momentum you might get from firing and hiring a new guy. In spite of what most fans think these coaches do the same (frank)ing thing 99% of the time.
So (frank) it ...sign guys and fire them mid-season and bring in a new loud guy every January.
If Treeliving makes the roster better the new coach will be better. It's magic. |

Yeah. And we couldn't beat them. - fifty__missions
At the end of the day it came down to one goal.
The Leafs could’ve beat them, but Matthews scored one goal in the series.
Honestly, as much as everyone wants to go scorched earth, I don’t think that’s what’s needed. They need to get better goaltending, tougher forwards, and a defender (like Zadorov) who’s an animal.
Trade Tavares and Rielly (somehow) and you got a team with a new identity.
Maybe trade for some gritty bottom 6 guys. This is what a cup contender looks like:
Knies Matthews Marner
Crouse Domi Nylander
McMann Díckenson Greenway
Cowan Holmberg Johnston (ANA)
Reavo
Dunn Chychrun
Edmunson Jones
Benoit McCabe
Gibson

It's going to be Berube.
I have no inside information but it just seems like the obvious pendulum swing from a player's coach like Keefe to a hardcore badass.

He’s probably the best option.
The Leafs are gonna have to learn how to dump and chase. After 5 years of playing structer-less hockey it’s could be a painful process. Willy will get absolutely killed in Berube’s system. They’ll need to bring in players who are accustomed to this style of play already.
It’ll massively help out the goaltending tho, and hopefully they can get the PP chugging. |

If bringing in a coach is the extent of the major changes, then I wouldn't expect different results for this coming season. Barring major trades involving the core, it will likely be a new bench boss re-arranging the same deck chairs on the Titanic again. Maybe the management will be proactive and do something big with the roster before this season, but I wouldn't bet good money on that.
Berube/Bod/Whoever will institute culture changes which will pay dividends in the longer term once half of the core four is due for contracts. Then I would expect some big changes.
It's gonna be another "show me" season, except with a new bench boss.

If he decides the Oilers are a team he wants to join, the Maple Leafs would likely have to retain 50% of Marner’s current contract, dropping his cap hit to $5.4515 million, which is much more affordable. The Oilers could part with a package involving Kane or Cody Ceci to bring the money closer (Kane makes $5.125 million & Ceci makes $3.25 million), two top prospects like Raphael Lavoie and Xavier Bourgault, as well as several high draft picks.

Remember when Keenan benched Hawerchuk when his dying grandmother came to watch him play one last time?

The Leafs best winger missed 3 games, Matthews hurt/ injured and missed 2 games and was a shell of himself in game 7 and Will got hurt in game 6.
All that being factored in and the fact the Leafs were the underdog going in they pushed Boston to the brink.
It sucked losing and hurts but for me taking a step back and factoring all that in I’m not nearly as angry as I have been in the past.
Don’t get me wrong I still strongly believe they need to move a core piece (and that it’s probably Marner) and make some changes but I like some of what I saw and the perfect storm of injuries sure didn’t help.
Side note - Jesus I would love to see “Big Zed” as Bieska has named him as a Leaf. - Cush29
PLEASE...don't be playing the "injuries", "playing hurt" card...Nucks are on their 3rd string goalie FFS....ALL teams are dinged up....they freakin won more games with Matthew out, than in!!!...No, it is NOT injuries why the Leafs faltered. Not in the least!

maybe there might be 1 person who thinks thats...fine? but I doubt it.
Most I think are fine going a different direction and Trading Mitch to spend that money elsewhere, instead of giving him 13mil and trying an 8th, 9th, 10th time as is.

agree here, the excuses are tired and lame at this point. All teams have to deal with Injuries.

The Leafs miss the playoffs without Mitch.
No one is saying 13M. That’s too much.
And let’s not act like the Marner hate started this playoffs. Leafs could lose in the finals and they’d still be trying to run him out of town.
He’s not going anywhere. |

We've seen coaches get fired and teams rocket all the time. We'll see how it plays out.
Bylsma took over for Therrien and they instantly won. Berube. Even just this year with Edmonton. We all kind of forget that they were in like last place in November |
|
|
|
Because it's obvious the roster needs to be constructed differently, just like it was obvious at the TDL but you don't trade one of your marquee players going into the playoffs.
Why would Marner and a 1st round pick even be comparable in that sense? - joel878
Well if you believe he’s a marquee player then why even entertain the thought of trading him? Let’s say for a sec that the Leafs pull off the impossible..,. Makar for Marner and acquire a legit starting goalie that can be be relied upon to steal multiple playoff games….in all likelihood such a team may be forced to spend significant assets to re acquire another marquee player at the TDL |
