Not sure how that affects the Flyers but overall, Bettman has been fantastic for the NHL - MJL

That he has been terrible for the fans is an opinion. He doesn't work for the fans. Based on how he has grown the game, increased revenue and increased the worth of NHL franchises. It seems as though the fans like what he has done.

They’ve been trying to replace him since he played his last game and have been digging the hole deeper that his injury put them ever since.
Ellis was the Pronger replacement they had been looking for and he did the same thing only for more money and longer term. - Shrike
MJL I believe is referring to the contract. The original post was complaining that other teams are smarter as they use LTIR to their benefit and blamed the Pronger contract for a lot of the issues. Losing him as a player cost them dearly but his contract was not prohibitive of them acquiring high paid players. |

Never really understood where the hatred for Bettman came from. I always thought it was really just because he’s a short Jewish guy from NY with a nasal voice. |

The Ellis situation has nothing to do with the Pronger contract.

I wasn’t a fan of the work stoppages, I’m not a fan of putting teams in non traditional area’s, but understand it. I don’t like a lot of the rule changes he pushed for over the years….But the games financial viability has grown by leaps and bounds and he deserves a ton of the credit. |

Multiple lockouts including losing a full season.
Calling the Penguins the model NHL franchise in 08/09 after tanking and being on the verge of relocation angered many fans, not just Flyers fans.
The big markets have less of an advantage in being able to spend more than other teams.
Being the commish when teams like Quebec, Hartford, Winnipeg, & Minnesota relocated. Additionally, being so hard headed about Arizona when many other places have desperately wanted teams.
The shootout.
Refusal to acknowledge CTE and the lack of care for the long term health of players, especially once they retire.
Just a few reasons why people hate him. |

Would anyone here sign TK for $8.5-$9 × 8?
No way he's taking anything less than 7 years on the market.
Do we move him at draft or TDL? - cdearth23
Hopefully Utah, Ottawa, Seattle, the list goes on and on as long as it ain’t the Flyers. |

The main positive to come out of the lost season was the crack down on obstruction. A lot of people don’t know that was a big issue that Ed Snider pushed for. |

Are we trying to win now or build around Michkov?
If it’s the former it’s a pipe dream to begin with. This is one of those opportunities where you have a chance to take a step back and reload and the Flyers absolutely should. But I can almost guarantee that they won’t. |

Ultimately he’s just an employee of the league. If the owners weren't happy with him he wouldn’t be there. Still think, for most fans, it’s just fun to hate on him because he’s a weaselly looking little guy in a suit. |

As part of a package TK might get you a top 10 draft pick in a future year.
I'm reluctant only because of the potential return. |

You aren’t going to win with him and this roster any time soon. If it’s a fair offer for future assets you do it imo.
Plus you can save the cap space and take on expiring contracts at the deadline for even more assets.
Flyers will very likely re-sign him for yet another year of battling for that 8 seed like it’s as important as winning the cup. |

If Michkov comes over this September, he needs someone to play with. I understand the Flyers need to rebuild. I’d be shopping Konency right now but rebuild doesn’t mean we have to be bad. We just need to unload. In my opinion “rebuild” and “tanking” are two different things. Tanking is throwing the worst possible roster on the ice and intentionally losing. Rebuilding is getting rid of expensive/long term contracts and players who don’t have a future with the organization. |

Just ignore all that lol. Bottom line is he’s gotten a ton wrong, someone could have very easily done a better job. An NHL franchise played in a 5,000 seat arena this year…. |

Well, London Knights are just steamrolling everyone. Bonk with a nice one time goal in a 4-0 win.

To me all he’s ever cared about is gaining more media markets. The league is more watered down now than I ever remember. Terrible at promoting its stars too on his watch.
The biggest issue I have though is that they gutted divisional play and rivalries basically don’t exist in the NHL anymore outside of 7 game series. |

We used to play divisional teams what 6/7 times a year? Now it can be as little as 3. The “parity” right now has created a landfill of extremely mediocre teams, a few absolutely terrible, and a few good ones. Watered down is an understatement. |
