Sometimes I think everything started going downhill for the Flyers with the 97 SCF.

Sure, their were some good years after that, but they were relatively few and far between.

A few times they seemed to get a team that looked like they were a player or two away…but they never seemed to to be able to add that guy. They’ve had some decent cores but the additions always fell short. Even back to the Hextall era, the core was decent, but they failed to build on it. Since then it’s just a mish mash of failures.

Stian Solberg seems to be another late riser in the 1st rd. I wonder if he makes it into the top 15.

2004 could have had a different outcome. But yeah, lately it's been blah with a dash of hope spritzed in.

As many have stated over the years, it always seemed like they were trying to win "last years" cup. But never actually understanding what it was about the team they were trying to emulate that was successful.

An even somewhat healthy Dejardins would have made the difference.

As always, problem number 1 was the hiring of Gary Bettman as commissioner.

Number 2 is the 04/05 lockout. The Flyers still have no idea how to assemble a roster in the salary cap era.

Number 3 is the effect Clarke and Barber have on the running of this Franchise.

Number 4 is the Pronger injury. With what we gave up for him, how little he played for us and the amount of cap space over time that was tied up on him, that contract crippled this organization for a decade. And we’re doing it all over again with that guy from Nashville.

And yet other teams use LTIR to their advantage. Once they traded Carter and Richards, the rebuilding of the roster was crap. The nucleus of G, Voracek, Simmonds, Kimmo, Coburn Schenn, and Couts had potential, but the goalie situation was horrible and there were other holes in the roster.

One of the insiders like Bernstein or Pagnota said on NHL radio that Tampa may be trying to acquire Ellis to utilize LTIR. Say what you will, but Tampa is one of the smart teams when it comes to using the cap rules effectively.

And how good have these last 3 games been? Florida, The Rags, Edmonton and Dallas are fantastic. I hope both series go 7 games and please let the Rags lose.

Not sure how that affects the Flyers but overall, Bettman has been fantastic for the NHL

It did not cripple this organization for a decade. The Flyers acquired Pronger in June of 2009. His contract was traded to Phoenix in June of 2015

Would anyone here sign TK for $8.5-$9 × 8?

No way he's taking anything less than 7 years on the market.

Do we move him at draft or TDL?

In my opinion, they should trade Konecny but they won't.

The Pronger injury really threw a wrench into everything. But it wasn’t that they didn’t use LTIR properly that was the problem. Homer panicked, first trading JVR for L. Schenn. He then tried to sign Ryan Suter and Parise, (he lost Carle while waiting on their decision) and after that failed, he tried to trade for Shea Weber. When the Preds wouldn’t make the deal, he signed him to that offer sheet that the Preds matched. After being unable to land either of those guys there wasn’t much else he could do. Those types of players rarely become available. So in ensuing years he tried to fill the hole with far inferior players like Streit and MacDonald.

It’s really why I’ve been on team rebuild since 2013.

Konecny is a very very good player. But 10 mil is for a franchise C. Not a point a game winger or there abouts…. With MM perhaps on his way and will more then likely be the RW1….I don’t think the Flyers should even consider paying Konecny or what is essentially the RW2.
We’ll see.

They’ve been trying to replace him since he played his last game and have been digging the hole deeper that his injury put them ever since.

Ellis was the Pronger replacement they had been looking for and he did the same thing only for more money and longer term.

No, it doesn’t really make sense to sign him even at a reasonable #. He doesn’t fit a rebuild timeline and is their best piece to use to acquire picks or prospects. I think you move him as early as possible because you’ll get more value. It’s easier to make big trades in the offseason because you have time to get your cap in order prior to the season plus a team will have TK for the full coming season vs just the stretch run. Additionally, while TK can’t sign an extension until July 1, the Flyers could allow his agent to speak with another team ahead of a trade so a team could know that when they do trade for him they know he’ll sign. If a team can get that assurance they’d be willing to offer more value.
