Wiz Demidov is the second best player in the draft but to me I drafting Lindstrom imo the injures are valid bur also maybe not as serious as are saying. Even if he doesn't make as a center Hawks have a big nasty power forward on wing. Tkachuk like player. More will be known at the combine |

Its really hard to do a rebuild and win a cup. A mistake here and there can really screw it up.
We should all keep this in mind. - vabeachbear
One thing I'm certain of is if Minny or Dallas wants me to include a prospect they want in a trade, i don't do it. |

Doughty 1177 games played
Faber 84 games played
Doughty had a whopping 3 more points than him in the regular season
Don't know how much Doughty has left in the tank but that was a huge sacrifice to trade him away because you thought your team was ready to compete in the playoffs. - BetweenTheDots
Doughty was signed to his contract the year before Faber was drafted. He had full NMC until this season. On top of a few extra points, Doughty also is notably better in all other advanced stats while having a lower Off Zone start %.
Faber was traded in the summer of 2022, and they still have other prospects waiting to get in. Clarke hasn't been able to crack the lineup yet.
I'm not taking anything away from Faber, but the Kings had an excess of defensemen from which to acquire what they needed. Indeed, we'll have to see in the long run if it was a good move, but right now it was a good move (they picked up the second highest scorer on their team). If Clarke ends up equaling or surpassing what Faber is doing, does your opinion of the move change? Not to mention the "Faber may not have been as effective in LA's system" wrench. It's a different system, and he likely would be getting bottom pair minutes and responsibilities. |

What? A trade can be good for both teams? The hell you say! |

Both GM's should be fired. Every move you make has to be a grand slam winner. Who cares if it helped your team, if it also helped the other team.

I do Chunk, i think this was a bad move, so you trade a stud defenseman who's on an ELC to keep Doughty at $11 mil and then sign Fiala to $8 mil when Minny couldn't afford him. Many post here the chances of any of our draft picks becoming NHL players are slim. That FO right now is thinking if we kept Faber we could of traded Doughty or bought him out and on top of it if Clarke becomes a stud we are set for years at the RD position.

That was a home run for Minny he should be extended. |

He will play in the dub, with his team.
A bit of a difference when you let a first round defenseman linger in Junior and not get pro coaching, daily advice and supervision.
You want Cayden to ply his trade and keep getting bigger, stronger and faster. - wiz1901
Agreed, there are still areas he can work on. |

They didn't trade Faber to keep Doughty. They traded him to get Fiala. Doughty was signed in 2019 and had a full NMC when they traded Faber. They picked up a great scorer. You can't just separate the trade from the situation. |

With a hard cap, isn't this what GMs dream of drafting a player who can replace an aging player who's really expensive? I think they had no idea he was going to be this good. No matter how you slice it that trade made them look bad. |

Just imagine how bad they'll look if Clarke isn't the answer. |

This is the same guy who bought out Parise and Suter to no tangible benefit right? |

Well, one team made the playoffs this year and the other didn't.
Edit: I fully grant that yes, you want to be able to draft kids to replace aging high price vets, but you also want to be competitive. If you are always chasing cost certainty, you end up like CAR, or NSH. No one knows exactly what a player will be until they actually prove it vs NHL opposition. |

There's no argument it was a bad move. No matter how you try to justify it, it was a bad move. |

What do you think of giving up a second round pick to improve two spots in the first and a few in the second? Good or bad move? |
|

Well, one team made the playoffs this year and the other didn't. - Chunk
So. They both didn't win a Stanley Cup. Minny got a lot younger and my guess is Faber will be playing a long time after Doughty and Fiala hang them up |

At what point is it prudent to make moves (trades/signings) to fill holes on your team?
Do you simply just draft and hope you've eventually filled out an entire roster? |

I don't know, my best guess is he thinks the players after a certain number are not very good, it's so early to make this trade or maybe his talent tier drops at 18 or 19.
I'll add i don't think he values the 2nd round picks in this draft or feels he can trade back into the 2nd round using one of our second rounds from next year. |

I've said this before i feel like LA was on a good path until they got a taste of winning and thought they were better than they really were. I know i share another unpopular opinion i didn't like NJ going after Meier either. I give Vegas a ton of credit building their team the way they did and winning a SC but it's so hard to do it the way they did. With that hard cap it will always be an obstacle for any team in a rush to win. |

Well the guy who wrote the article says Faber would still be playing in the minors if he was with LA? Who's most? The people you talk to.
That's great I really hope it works out for the Kings, maybe they can win a playoff series next year. Doughty at 34, Kopitar at 36, tick tock

At what point is it acceptable to make a trade or signing to fill holes on your team to make them competitive in the playoffs? |

Yeah, that's the point. The Kings had (and have) plenty of D depth. They moved one of those pieces to acquire something they were lacking... scoring.
Beyond Doughty and Kopitar, they have Byfield, Fiala, Anderson, Spence, Clarke and a few other kids in junior. |
