I was probably his biggest critic for years. He's really turned things around and plays a better, more mature/responsible 200ft game these days. When he is "on", he's pretty much unstoppable, and he has been ON much more than he's been OFF and floating.

Yeah not sure why anyone is surprised. If you let Bennett uppercut Marchand on the ice, or Trouba throw elbows any chance he gets, why shouldn't teams employ deliberate targeting of the opposition?
