How about Flyers getting Dan Quinn, Kerry Huffman, Mike Maneluk in separate deals. Can only go up in a possible return.
- Trox88

Seeing them now sounds familiar, any deals of significance? I remember Daigle getting swapped for Pat Balloon and someone. For what they gave up I think the Flyers won that.

If Ottawa was willing to trade #7, Chabot, and Joseph for Farabee, Laughton, and #32 you take that deal and hope you don’t get arrested for stealing.

Not much cash for Quinn and Maneluk I believe, and a late round pick for Huffman.

I look at the Sens and they have to try and over take 2 of FLA, BOS, TB, and TOR to guarantee a playoff spot. Not to mention BUF. Not sure using #7 for a prospect who is at least 2 yrs away closes that gap. Luckily. the draft is a week away.

That’s how you rebuild though. It’s not 10 years of tanking. A big chunk is tanking and drafting high. Then, depending on your luck with picks, you start to build around that core.

Take the 2 teams in the final, FLA and EDM, each started their rebuilds about 09/10.

FLA started to come out of their, let’s call it a “tank” phase, after 2015. So that’s about 5 years. In that time frame they selected 4 top 3 picks. Gudbranson, Huberdeau, Barkov, & Ekblad. They made some upgrades to their roster and had a great 2015/16 season. Then they bungled the expansion draft and that set them back a few years until 2020, when they hire Zito. Well, Zito has had them in compete mode since and has built the roster around the core of Barkov and Ekblad. If they don’t bungle expansion they’d have had a chance to compete sooner.

Edmonton started to come out of their “tank” phase at the same time. I outlined their issues in a previous post.

Each team “tanked” for around 5 years and then started to try to build around that core. Their GMs at the time didn’t do a good job building around the core post tank and that’s why it’s taken longer for each of them. New GMs have had to come in, which have done a better job.

Oh I totally agree. I laid out that scenario years ago before the coots extension when I was screaming for them to rebuild and used kings as example of how it takes 10 years to build IF started from complete scratch.

Mjl would mock me and chastise with his wonderfulness over and over how no fanbase would ever accept a 10 year rebuild. He will never admit it of course but no we see him lay that 8-10 year timeframe for true rebuild. At least he’s seen the light.

I’d personally put Philly at around year 3 of rebuild and not from scratch. Maybe even year 4 level if they dont screw this years draft up

Florida players are being paid (tax free) to take it to game 7 so they can win it in South Beach. The NHL wants those Canadian tv ratings, otherwise they would be watching re-runs of Trailer Trash Boys or practicing lacrosse in the living room.

The more I watch this game 6, the more I want Edmonton to feel the 1987 pain.

Absolutely ludicrous the scheduling. Stanley Cup handed out June 24th, buyout period starts 48 hours later, then the draft, and Free Agency a mere 7 days later. Seems so silly and compacted. At least the Flyers have had an extra two months to prepare.

Yeah. I’m so tired of the slobbering all over McDavid. Oh and Ray Ferraro is getting on my nerves too. Almost as annoying as Pierre McGuire. So cranky is a good word.

Hill to die on, lol. So dramatic.
You think ice hockey is having great ratings for this finals going so late into the summer? Only die hard hockey fans care about watching ice hockey when the kids are home for the summer. I do not apologize for believing Bettman has been a net negative for the sport.

I just want people to remember when they say the Flyers need a better goaltender and how they lose games because of it...

Stuart Skinner.

Hasn't been bad, but no one anyone can say he has played great. When goaltenders can stop the stoppable, get some luck here and there, the team plays routine defense in front and doesn't sit back while providing offense. The average can look above.
