Since it came up that it isn't a good look about trading away their last 3 captains...

While I agree, I also want to point out that not one of the last 3 is someone I was ever completely stoked about to have as a captain if I'm being objective. McDonagh is the only one that I was mostly sold on.

The issue with Callahan, McDonagh and Trouba is that none of them could be considered an elite player.

Can anyone recall a Stanley Cup winner in recent memory that had a Captain that isn't elite?

Surprised no one is talking about Trouba's wife in all of these rumours. Wasn't she key to bringing him to NYC in the first place? Does anyone know where her career is at? Thought she wanted to be in NY for medical school or work or something.

I mean nobody's wife matters when it goes from a NMC to a 15 team NTC

It was a big part of his coming here. I am going to guess that they will make it work somewhere else if needed. There are tons of other high profile hospitals/programs she could work in.

I always got the impression they collectively wanted out of Canada and in a major US city. So there are plenty of those to get traded to. Detroit is so obvious but does Yzerman want that splash is the question

Dustin Brown would probably be the most recent example

Stamkos? He only played 1 playoff game in 2020 and played 38 regular season games (34 pts) and 23 games for 18 pts in 2021.

Yea that’s a good one. Then they have it to Kopitar who’s probably a tier below elite

Stamkos is definitely elite. He was hurt for the first cup and banged up the next year but he has for sure had an elite career

Elite career for sure. Not elite during their 2 cups, that’s why I put the ?.

Athletic did a ranking of all teams cap situations. Rangers ranked 26th. Isles ranked dead last

I always gave their cups an asterisk with no fans. They don’t like that on cap friendly

It also signals to him that he is no longer wanted and may make him more amenable to just going anywhere. It can't feel good to get asked for the list early.
- JRR1285

I don't think its unrealistic to say in this case that it's a question of being a cap casualty, not that he isn't wanted.

That’s a fair way to look at it. Same with goodrow. It’s a business. Drury is like a mafia boss without actually whacking a guy
