That’s a fair way to look at it. Same with goodrow. It’s a business. Drury is like a mafia boss without actually whacking a guy

Speaking of trading captains, look at Buffalo's recent track record.

Traded Captain Kyle Okposo 3/8/24, Okposo wins 2024 Stanley Cup

Traded Captain Jack Eichel 11/4/21, Eichel wins 2023 Stanley Cup

Traded Asst. Captain Sam Reinhart 7/24/21, Reinhart wins 2024 Stanley Cup

Traded Asst. Captain Ryan O'Reilly (didn't have a captain in 17-18) 7/1/2018, O'Reilly wins 2019 Stanley Cup

In the last 7 years, Buffalo has had 2 players wear the C and 9 wear an A.

Both captains were traded and went on to win the stanley cup with their new teams.

4 of the 9 assistants were traded and 2 of them went on to win the cup with their new teams.

Zach Bogosian wasn't let go as a captain, he was an assistant in 17-18, then lost the A when Eichel was made captain and Okposo and Pominville were named Assistants. 2 years later Bogo was put on waivers to terminate his contract and he eventually signed with Tampa who won the cup that year.

They moved 5 players that wore a letter over a 7 year period that all went on to win the cup shortly thereafter

So basically you're saying that when we trade for Tuch to be our 1RW the Cup is ours?

Pumped for tomorrow. Whether we trade it for McGroarty or to move up/down, I highly doubt we make our pick at #30.

Buffalo didn't have a Captain this year so I believe Tuch and Dahlin both wore the 'A'

See my post above. Okposo was the captain they traded him to Florida.

Assistants were Dahlin and Girgensons were the assts

Since it came up that it isn't a good look about trading away their last 3 captains...

While I agree, I also want to point out that not one of the last 3 is someone I was ever completely stoked about to have as a captain if I'm being objective. McDonagh is the only one that I was mostly sold on.

The issue with Callahan, McDonagh and Trouba is that none of them could be considered an elite player.

Can anyone recall a Stanley Cup winner in recent memory that had a Captain that isn't elite?

- JRR1285

Cally had the competitive drive and intensity that helped carry the team despite not being elite.

Tuch wore the 'A" in January 2024 when Okposo was still with the team but injured.

i had to do a double take, I was like maybe ive confused it with the norris.

Some of my friends who don't watch hockey are like 'dude hockey trophies have dumb names' i'm like no it's the coolest ever! But i get how confusing it can be.
