I think it's clear that we need to focus on becoming an elite 5on5 team this offseason. Can't win a cup with being a top 5 powerplay, top 3 goalie, and top 15-20 5on5. Even the vaunted Oilers powerplay dried up in the finals, and we all know that the refs don't make calls the deeper into the playoffs you get. Have to become elite 5on5.

Patty Kane is entering the building for that

This top 6 is up there in the top of the NHL, 5 on 5 or the PP, it should score plenty

No offense, but I don't think adding Kane matters. We have Zibanejad and Panarin, who aren't good enough to drive play 5on5 when it gets really tough, about halfway thru round 2 of the playoffs, but especially rounds 3 and 4. Full stop. They just aren't good enough.

I've never been more pessimistic about the perpetual state of purgatory this team keeps me in.

If what I wrote above changes one year down the line, deeper into their 30s, I will be shocked.

I kinda think miller is very overrated. Can he get better sure, and he better, but he digressed this year. He was a big part of the problems we had
- Slimtj100

Miller was stapled to our biggest problem on defense most of the year and then played well with Schneider. A few bad mistakes that stand out because of how bad they were? Sure. Frustrating at times because he can be better? Absolutely. But the net impact he makes is positive. Our biggest problems on defense in the playoffs were:

Fox being hurt
Lindgren being hurt
Trouba being hurt and also bad and overpayed

Miller played so small all year, manifested by the playoffs. He can go.

Either way they aren’t good for each other. He’s soft is what the problem is. You’d think playing with Trouba he’d be more inclined to play like him a little bit

That pair seems to have at least been broken apart so it should help both of them

Ok I understand now. We are only able to talk in terms of “big” and “small” and nothing else is relevant. My bad

He played in 50 games. Most with JT compher.

You’re a devils fan so why do you care anyway?

50 out of 82? Is that good? Again he had 27 5 on 5 points which is lower than likes of: Mantha, Saad, Domi, Werenski, Slavin, etc, etc, etc, etc

Patrick Kane stinks. I'd very much love to continue to be right about Chris Drury being unfit for this job if he signs Patrick Kane.

he doesn’t cost assets to get tho.

I’m gonna be like Lardass in Stand By Me watching everyone vomit when we sign him

Ok Tom. If you actually think a guy 5’10 175 lbs isn’t more likely to get hurt/worn down during a season/playoffs vs a guy that’s 6’4 220, I don’t know what to tell you. Can ANY player get hurt? Obviously. You’re arguing to argue here. If you watched the intermissions during the playoffs and heard what Messier, Subban etc were saying about defense in the playoffs; they all said the same thing. You need big, physical guys back there to wear down the opponents and it helps the toll it takes on their own body. But hey, I guess 3 guys under 195 lbs fit that mold also.
- nyrangers9479

I thought he made a good point. A player's awareness & style of play will have a fairly large impact on the probability of said player getting injured. There are plenty of players under 6 ft that have no problems staying healthy and can be effective in the playoffs. Size alone doesn't equate to playoff success.

I'm not sure you're hearing me though. It doesn't really matter if we have an old Kane or not.

Nobody should want him, as he'll be 35, is a power play merchant, isn't good 5 on 5. Perfect player for Chris Drury tbh.

I'm sure you local public school failed you as Rangers and devils are not same. Doesn't change the fact Patrick Kane stinks.

What're these future considerations? I could see trading a player for future considerations but a 2nd round pick?

Can we look back at this claim somewhere during next season because miller is worth a whole hell of a lot more than a #4/5 d man, which I don’t even fully understand. What is a #4/5 dman exactly? Either way, I think this will age like milk
- picklerick

Sure..Miller has potential to a good player, but he ain't a top pairing Dman..hence his fetching a top 4 dman. Aaaaaaand......he did zero in playoffs when it got rough on the ice. He doesn't have it IMO. Another NYR regular season hero

Seems like the Oilers were pretty banged up, too

McDavid played through an abdominal injury that likely requires surgery

Draisaitl played with a broken rib and finger

Cap dump. Detroit creating room. They gave away a 2nd so San Jose could take Wallman. Getting outsmarted by Mike Greier if you're Yzerman is a YIKES moment.

What are u not understanding? NYR plays too soft, small, weak on D. Period! Putting out the same players on D will get same result..especially if Jones is replacing Gus. Have u looked at the SC finals the past 5 years? I will tell u one thing...They all had better D corps...and yes....BIGGER and tougher

McGroarty needs to be an Islander.
- ses111

Unfortunately the islanders need a lot of high end young talent.
