Great trade!! The Hawks just improved their bottom six tremendously compared to the hacks they put on the ice a year ago. They will resign Lafferty for 2 years, plus Mikheyev has the ability to move up the lines if need be. Davidson needs to keep it up, but this trade definitely improved the Hawks tonight!! |

Forgive me if this has been asked already, but is Mikheyev potentially a buyout candidate here? https://www.capfriendly.c...-calculator/ilya-mikheyev - 333inthe3rd
They won’t buy him out, he fits perfectly for 2 more years, plus he lets the Hawks get to the cap floor. Plus, he is cheap enough for the Hawks to continue to upgrade their roster for the time being. |

Yes you are correct.....the bottom six will become better. Both Mikhayev and Lafferty could be traded for depth for a playoff contender next season if we want to recoup the draft choices. So from that point - of - view we win the trade. Yet this trade with Vancouver brings us a Russian who can communicate and be friends with Deidmov or Levshunov. Yes another good result from the trade.
Sam Ppllock, the old Montreal GM, always stockpiled draft choices. The more choices the greater the odds to select players who eventually make your roster and push others for a job. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, you can swing for a home run pick with raw talented kids when you have extra picks |

Even when not scoring he's a positive play driving player.
I think they are hoping that with Chicago's, theoretically, more run and gun style offense you start to see the speed come back and opportunities improve for the player.
This is the kind of player where you'd start to see a guy like Vlasic start to rack up more points on those spring the zone passes.
Many of the reviews pointed to mostly good play but the goals and high danger chances kinda dried up even though there was volume shooting. Some of which could be credited to the safe boring hockey the Canucks play.
Could be a really interesting move by the hawks. At a minimum it's a competent NHL player for salary and term that is inconsequential and on the high end it's a 25/25 guy who helps create some space for Bedard or Nazar.
Also a language friend for whatever east block guy they draft. |

Thanks. The salary floor issue is relevant, yes. I suppose if this year doesn't work out, it's a cheap buyout next summer. Not too worried either way.
It is interesting how the Hawks have become Vancouver's go to for their salary dumps. |

I've heard that KD is considered an upstanding guy among other GMs. He always seems to be in the ballpark when talking trades.

We are good - it was basically take this fairly new Russian guy's contract that Vancouver over paid him (and Bruce Boudreau) on, and TnT intermission report guy himself, Rick Tocchet who had little use for him, in the style of hockey he expects wingers to explode into, especially when the Cap hit space was needed elsewhere, like getting the Chicago franchise past $60 and $28 mil available of space, at this moment.
Having a PP pt.mn who finds the back of the net is nice to have in town.
And we obtained in the swap, Vanc 2nd Rd. 2027 for that Chic pick at 4th round a bit earlier...a bit more than a round-worth'a picks, as I expect the Canucks will continue to be and a switch of 35-50 draft slots in no way collapses their Canadian hockey future success. - wiz1901
Lets be clear about this 30 year old Russian stiff Mikheyev - he skates well but rarely makes anything happen offensively. He played for the Leafs so thats the first strike against him - but even those dummies in Toronto knew well enough to let him walk. Had one decent year offensively and then the Canucks grossly overpaid him.
And then Tocchet showed up to coach a year later and soon decided he didn't care much for the figure skating winger act.
So what all of this is about is getting to the cap floor and adding a forward who has an NHL resume which the Hawks have so few of. With a future draft pick attached as a thankyou. And they get a Russian language interpreter to boot.
Remember when the Hawks brought in Viktor Tihhonov 6 or 7 years ago? Mikheyev may last a little longer but the result won't be much different.
And my guess is Agent Milstein had a hand in this because he also represents the kid KD is going to draft on Friday.

Guess I would count Nazar but not Slaggert (think he will have one year on the top line in ROC).
Hall - Bedard - ?????
Reichel - Athanasiou - Kurashev
Foligno - D!ckinson - Nazar
Donato - Lafferty - Mikheyev
Sanford (because Slaggert needs to play every night)
Could see Donato being swapped somewhere if they want to keep Slaggert up. So one free agent/trade acquisition could fit in. Not sure who else they would trade, unless it was Reichel or Kurashev.
Agree that pretty much all the RFAs will go (maybe J. Anderson could be there instead of Sanford). Those guys are pushed out as ROC fills up with prospects. - totem
If this is Kyle's plan to improve then he is nuts.
I was hoping for a FA or two that could help Bedard and the team improve. At this rate, along with drafting a Dman, this fwd group isn't going to be average.
Instead of trying to make the playoffs on 98s rookie deal they are "stock piling" bad contracts and draft picks. |

Geez, how about a helping full of patience.
Most often teams do not dramatically improve super fast; we know Rome wasn't built in one day.
Come training camp hopefully a free agent or two signs or a trade construction like the Boston- Chicago trade where we got Hall and Foligno and they received Mitchell and Regula
There is hope we land a top rated forward Friday with the #2 overall and next year we could draft another top forward. Some of our past drafts should begin filtering in as well - Moore, Hayes, Greene along with Nazar
We may or may not find out some forwards at Rockford can come up and compete
Clearly we are starting to see some numbers quantity wise
Let us hope quality wise rings true too |

True --- one thing about the Russian from Vancouver - he had extensive experience in the KHL, and significant experience now in the NHL, which is an interesting angle.

Yes.
I can't say I'm too enamored with Ilya. One good offensive season, some injury issues the past couple years (ACL, cut wrist) skates well, hands of stone. Kind of a Russian version of AA.
But, rights to Lafferty who showed well in his time with the Hawks, another 2nd round pick in the bank, closer to the cap floor and no one here long term.
We'll have to see if this is actually an improvement.
You gotta admit that KFC sure does make things interesting. |

With Lafferty he's made the bottom 6 better, if he signs him. We all know if Ilya doesn't play a certain way for LR he won't play much. Coming off knee surgery so maybe he shows better for us or maybe not but i believe we'll see a few more new faces after free agency period opens up.

Ditto. Pretty sure KFC isn't done reshaping the upcoming season's roster and still has his shopping list of looking for a couple players who could play in the top 6.
Would still like to see two of Teuvo, Guentzel, DeBrusk, Duchene and another dman.
Like someone mentioned getting Laff and Mikhayev hopefully means only one or none of Anderson, Raddysh, R. Johnson and Blackwell gets a QO.
Edit - Don't know much about Mikhayev but supposedly before the knee surgery he could fly and some scout in The Athletic was quoted as saying a lot of times it takes another season before they get that back.
Plus he apparently has some Lavender Sniffer in him so I know Paul and Mo will like him. |

Well the first cap dump trade has been made. Hopefully today KD picks up a few more NHL players for pennies on the dollar and keeps stocking the cupboard with Future Picks. Wonder if he can get Vegas's #19 plus one of there cap casualties. |
