The poop on the Trouba deal:
"Emily Kaplan of ESPN, that the Rangers did indeed have a trade agreed upon that would have sent Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings, but the veteran d-man put the kibosh on the deal, invoking his no-trade clause.
"There was a deal in place with the Red Wings, I am told, and Jacob used the power given to him in his contract—and he earned it—to block it, and that's within his rights," said Kaplan in an interview on TSN. "
"Trouba, the winner of this year's Mark Messier Leadership Award in the NHL, had his full no-move clause revert to a 15-team no-trade clause as of July 1st, and he submitted that list to GM Chris Drury, a list which included the Red Wings. " |

This is where I think NYR was not smart. By not touching base with Trouba and letting it play out in the media he can pull up Cap Friendly (at the time) and look at all the teams that can’t get him or look at divisional rivals NYR wouldn’t want him to be on. Regardless, engage with the player and their camp before it gets to that point |

Yzerman should resign Sprong. - saintdog19
I wouldn’t mind at all. He’s available and there are limited options. If he’s sticking to wanting around 3 AAV that may be tough but closer to 2 for a 1 year should be a no brainer if he wants to come back. Just have to waive or dump another player to make room |

I guess that would provide a reason for the rushed Walman deal to clear a spot… shoulda made that conditional |

I’ve heard a couple “versions” of how that went down and notice that none of them hit print. It makes sense from that point of view, getting the pick from Nashville to add to the deal gets into to even more rumor territory.
My honest question is, does the framework put together for Trouba help in the “rumored” talks with Ekblad? Was there something in that deal that Florida likes? I guess we’ll wait and see |

i think Florida would be cautious to change out more of the D core in one offseason. I wish I knew what the trade was for Trouba before he killed it |

The only reason I gave it a mention was their last acquisition put them above the cap (Boqvist) and there are a couple of rumors (and have been) that Ekblad has been mentioned. Cap friendly is down, and I’m not thrilled with the alternatives yet. Up to me to get that part figured out. I keep hoping for a new release that was reverse engineered and isn’t reliant on AI for its main function |

I don't see Florida trading Ekblad at this point. They already lost Montour so they can't afford to lose Ekblad too. As far as i know they have nothing to replace him with and losing your top 2 RHD in one off-season will make contending almost impossible.
I think Yzerman is stuck with what he has at this point until someone becomes available closer to the deadline and by that time, it will likely be too late. |

Yeah I think it would be more likely they move Knight if they really need to clear cap. |

Is he counted as part of the cap or still in PA? Beyond that, just an interesting “tidbit” making the rounds in a dead summer. That and the NBA’s insane new deal that still has more $ coming. 7.6 per year so far for that league across all platforms |

He came back from the PA long ago. He played most of the season in the AHL and even won a perseverance award of some sort. |

Ah, the award usually goes to someone who got arrested or charged in the NHL (partial sarcasm) |
