so, if it wasn't Hossa, was it Jake Guentzel or Chris Kunitz that was the best winger Sid ever had?

Really dig this blog idea and enjoyed reading it. Would like to see maybe the 2009, 2016 and 2017 edition of it as well.

I was pretty bummed about Malone at the time. I understood the decision but he was one of my favourite Pens, played with an edge.. went to the areas I like to go to. I actually ran into him at George Street Festival in a bar, shook has hand told him I wished he was still a Pen. He bought me a beer and chatted, said he really wished he stayed with Pens... and ended up going back to his room with a chick I'd made out with a few years before haha.

Ryan Clowe (from here) used to hold an annual golf tournament here timed to be the same time as George Street Fest. Every year a bunch of NHLers would come to take part in it all. Ran into Jumbo Joe in the street one time as well. Big dude, hard not to notice him in a crowd.

I have seen Sid many times imply Hossa was his best winger.

Hossa and Jake didn’t have the wherewithal to fulfill the full spectrum of responsibilities that come with playing with the best player in the world. Kunitz did.

I'm going to defer to Sid on this one, and he says Hossa was the best.

Were starting with the puff pieces already about the past? But the penguins have duabs and the core along with GM sullivan. If were starting with the puff pieces also is this a rebuild? I keep reading and people saying it is a rebuild but not seeing it? If so why isn't dubas trading any of the core players for picks and prospects? I don't mind a rebuild but let's do what a rebuild is and not appease the fan base with keeping the core.

Quotes not working.

Grinder said he was anticipating Craig Adams. I’m also eager to see Tanner Glass.

Sid claims to play better having a tough guy in the lineup every night as well.

Ahhh I'm pretty sure you're referring to when Sid signed a stick for Tom Sestito with a message for Tom's kid saying he felt a foot taller when the kid's Dad, Tom, was in the lineup....not quite the same...

For me its Kunitz or Hossa...and I still love Jake and realize he was the highest producing with Sid. Hossa became an even 2 way force after he left...but for time with Sid I might have to go with Kunitz. Kunitz was a sandpaper physical guy who also produced a lot. My favourite kinda guy....grit AND skill. Such a bigger sample size with Kunitz, as well.

I do think if you just look at them all as individual hockey players that Hossa is the best one of those 3, though....

There’s a lot of interviews where Sid expresses a lot of love an admiration of all the tough guys he’s played with.

Strange that I dont remember anything like this...but even if its so it has nothing to do with him playing better with them in the lineup hahaha.

Lets use some logic here....you dont think the Pens have had many tough guys in the lineups over the years, and I agree, yet, Sid has been dominant pretty much every season without one, or more, of these guys in the lineup.....

Was just scrolling trough puckpedia and noticed pens signed Brunickle to ELC, they also have signed Howe to ELC, but Yager is not could there be any reason to why that is?

I mean technically going off the JFresh cards, I believe Kunitz had the highest WAR of all of Sid's wingers. Dude was like a 98% WAR, even in his 30s.

He had the edge on Hossa and Guentzel in terms of defense and powerplay. And the fact that he was such a great forechecking and more of a unicorn.... if I had to pick a prime version to add to the team today, I might just take Kunitz.

Would love to see you cover a season pre-Crosby. Maybe one with Penguins legend Rico Fata and Ole Richardey Tarnstrom. Those were my formative years.
