Dumb move. Should have been moved for pieces to build with. Don't see the contract ageing well. |

Good move. We'd just end up trying to find someone like him in FA and would probably pay more. Contract is easily moved in 4 years too. |

If the Flyers aren’t the worst run team in the league, I’d like to know who is. |

As a PIT fan I love this because it signals a lack of a thorough rebuild and continuing mediocrity. Very stupid decision IMO. |

Depends on the contract clauses. If you think a full NMC will automatically be easy to move you're very optimistic. |

Remember the outcry when the stories came out about asking for $9-10M? This must be a sign he wants out of Philly! This is so absurd!
Some tried to explain that in a rising cap world this ask wasn't too far off. Negotiations start at $10M. They probably end with something closer to $8.5 to $9M. Nailed it. |

Nail in the coffin.
To ask flyers fans the past 2 years and the next 2 years to wait out expiring contracts and buyouts for stupid contracts so we will be able to spend money in 2 years, and then to go out and do this...
TK's game will not age well. |

Laughton will probably be extended. Michkov is here.Flyers going all in this year.

Sign and trade maybe (if he was onboard with this and wanted Max years).
The 8 years might make it a tough contract to trade without retention though. |

The flyer brass (Comcast). Hates the idea of a tank and flattened it out. But in a salary cap world it's hard to do it the old fashioned flyers way. |

Have to agree with the concerns posted here today. TK's style doesn't age well. But it's not all gloom & doom. Posters have listed 4 RWs that we've resigned. Out of the 4, 2 are not guaranteed to be here long term (Hathaway and Brink). Brink is on a bridge deal. He has to perform or he's at the end of the line here. Either we will get the production or the roster spot. Hathaway will be gone by then. I think Tippett is the real deal. He's going to need to make some adjustments to continue putting up points, but he will. TK didn't start putting up numbers until a) Torts gave him more responsibility after teaching him D and b) started playing with faster players or ones with better skills. There's a good chance he will mesh with MM, and that could become a nice combo. But TK doesn't need MM to make him successful. So we will get production from him until his body breaks down. Otherwise we have to wait for...who? There's not much in the prospect pool that can put up points. I still think it comes down to the next draft. If it goes like this year, these will all be bad signings. We need to draft elite skill period and not defer picks to the following year.

I understand from an ownership perspective why tanking is probably not very profitable and thus undesirable. But from the fan base perspective, refusing to tank and rebuild usually leads to perpetual mediocrity without ever being a legit contender. Especially in the salary cap era. SC winners are most often teams with a core primarily built through a rebuilding phase. |

Agreed. I like the way Chicago is building. I was blowing circuits during the draft, but still feel like Danny has an idea in mind we are not privy to. We have a TON of bad contract money having to expire off the books. Is this a waste year? 2 waste years? I think MM will be fun to watch and all, but he will need development time. The only thing I can think of is they are waiting for those bad contracts in order to sign FAs or look for "hockey trades", and while that's going on, the prospects will filter onto the roster - in that order. Maybe they've been publicly saying build with youth, but what they are really thinking is building with vets supplemented with prospects. If one were to look at Zito's plan, this is how he did it. Makes this a hard roster for prospects to crack, and of course, they aren't going to like that and will want to play elsewhere. Danny has a big challenge in front of him. We're going to find out if he's up to the task.
These 'waste' years are hard to take.

No, it’s not. He has a full NMC for the first 6 years. |

Did the penguins make the playoffs last season or the year before? Squandering Crosby and malkin. But you do have 2 cups to show for it |
