While most of the blame for this would still be put on former GM Kyle Dubas and his squandering of draft capital, current boss Brad Treliving in over a year has simply reshuffled the deck chairs on the Titanic and making a bold move to change the course of the ship away from an iceberg. - mikeinbuffalo

pretty much based on how successful the team has been, with playoff results and exceeding expectations
Canuck were 30th, and now 5th
NJ was first, but they had a disappointing year, so down to 7th.
The leafs have flopped 8 years in row...so down at the bottom they should be
Edmonton is interesting, 25th after a cup appearance. most not fooled. which I agree with |

Leafs need a mascot makeover.
If Carlton wants to save his job, he needs to step up his game. Get edgier. Polar bears are supposed to be terrifying, blood-spattered, snarling machines of death. You bring out an imitation of the other teams mascot and have Carlton viciously maul it and dismember it in front of the crowd (with Norwegian death metal playing).
It would set the tone.
Currently, he looks like he should be selling toliet paper. |

Leafs operate in an old school style. They are not forward thinkers like Vegas and Florida etc. As such they will never win. Tree brings more of the same thing, run it back. It’s a tired and failing system, just like Shanahan. After over 50 years of watching this mess, Go Utah. |

I have fallen to the side that Shanny is the main problem. I do not believe Dubas was good either but he had a vision and was willing to adjust.. Shanny seems fixed on a failed vision

The whole Dubas vs Shanahan story is stupid.
Shanahan hired Dubas. Even if Dubas was at fault, Shanahan is still responsible for it.
It's next to impossible to argue that either one was solely responsible because it was quite clearly both of them for various reasons.
Shanahan lost the plot when he let Lou go. Lou wasn't perfect but he has something that absolutely nobody else in the organization had then or now and that's a winning pedigree as a builder of a Cup winning team.
In an alternate universe, the Leafs should have fired Shanahan, promoted Lou to President of Hockey Ops, let him hire his own GM and go onward from there. I can almost guarantee the Leafs would have a better cap situation, won more playoff rounds and be a lot closer to winning a Cup than they have been since then. |

I was 9 years old when I saw them win their last Cup. I am now 67. No wonder the fanbase is comatose after another year of failure. I used to be able to go to a game, back in the 70's and 80's for as little as $5.00 in the Greys. Golds at the Gardens were $25.00. Now it's a mortgage payment for 2 people to go see a game with decent seats. But MLS&E really doesn't care. They get their ticket revenue and broadcast revenue and sit on their fat profits every year. Hardcore fans are forced to go to Ottawa or Buffalo, to see the Leafs play at a more reasonable cost. It's sickening and nothing ever changes. As a long time Methuselah fan, I feel badly for the younger Leafs fans. Never seeing their team in the finals and squandering all of their top end players peak years. Their window to win is now only 3 years and then it's downhill faster than am Olympic skier. It's pitiful and painful to watch. 50 weeks of skepticism for 2 weeks of ecstasy every spring. Not a great place to be. |

I'm 54 and wasn't alive the last time the Leafs had a parade. I want to see it happen.
Tampa tickets in the late 90s were 10 bucks for nosebleed seats. You could get a good seat on the lower level for under 50.
