Nope.
27 points in 56 games last year is good but teams are going to be wary of a guy who seemingly has a ton of talent but can't stick in the lineup for one reason or another. - BINGO!
I think he'd be great in Calgary. They have room in top 6 to hide his defensive woes |

I’ve said many times including here that the league was sooooo dumb to not offer sheet lafreniere to around 5Mil. Would have screwed the rangers so hard. Either would have had to lose him for a 2nd or paid him what they’d have had trouble affording |

That's not much of a concern in a Leafs thread. |

lol… signed for too long making them too costly to move for at least another year… that’s the moment that puts Jarnkrok in a position heading into a final year… still two more for Kampf tho… 3 more for him atm.. man oh man I’m no fan of that length |

They both are value village material and the furthest thing of playoff type in the bottom 6 we need. You don't pay those players north of 3 million. |

nope. Tre resigned Kampf. and Lilly. You hire Berube but give him chick poop ingredients to make his chicken salad. makes no sense. Tre so far has done more to keep the Dubas core together than shake things up. That's a hard fact to argue.
People talk about a revamped defense. That's amusing.. Tanev is a great add....who we worry can stay healthy. Hawk Tuah may never play again. OEL can't play defense and isn't exactly a solid option as far as the defensive end goes. Chairs were shuffled. nothing more.
Oh right. He's handcuffed by the cap and has no space and a lot of contracts for term and or money because of Dubas....makes sense if you completely ignore that HE resigned Nylander for 11.5 this summer and not Dubas. Just between Jamrock Camping and Nylander that's almost 15 million if not more than could have changed the core rhat hasn't worked for YEARS at least a bit more. Saying Tre hasn't had the chance or was handcuffed is complete female genitalia flap talk. |

I dont find that to be true. Until a core of this team is traded and the roster looks drastically different than 2 years ago, it's his team. When the philosophy and roster make up is suited to both coach and gm then you know. So far Tre seems timid, unsure of direction and of making a significant shift in core and culture. |

I'm absolutely not a fan of Kampf; the guy I wanted the Leafs to target last year was Pius Suter to take over that role. But Kampf is _relatively_ affordable, works hard and has been effective with the right linemate. Unfortunately for us that linemate was Engvall. When it was Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev, Engvall-Kampf-Kase, Engvall-Kampf-Kerfoot or Engvall-Kampf-Nylander - they were all effective. But Mikheyev-Kampf-Kase, ZAR-Kampf-Malgin, McMann-Kampf-Gregor, or Gregor-Kampf-Reaves - all of those lines have been hemmed in and played poorly.
Jarnkrok makes $2.1m, so he makes 2/3 of Kerfoot's salary and provides some intelligent defense. They can't all be behemoth's running around smashing people into walls -- but they could certainly use a couple more of those, and as you noted - especially on the back-end.
I do think Treliving is sort of pigeon-holed (and don't get me wrong, I am still not a fan of his overall work. He's had some good moments in his career, some bad moments and a bunch of contracts other people wish he hadn't given out). You want to move on from the core four - but they all have NMCs and all are paid at such a premium that movement is difficult (not impossible). But when you're sitting on the cusp - the cusp being if these (frank)wits could just take that next step and just compete hard - you can't really afford to take that step back and retool. Like moving Marner out for space, maybe some picks or prospects . . that would allow you to do what? Overpay Zadorov? Like it's. . . it's a no-win.
I've really figured that for the last two years that both GMs were basically stuck waiting until the end of this season to fix the team's imbalance. If JT's $11m were a $5m 2C and a $6m top-4 defender it would give us a lot more of what we need. |

Very solid post. Well articulated points. I definitely read it all and while a few items I didn't agree with I felt you made your points well and most I agreed with . Cheers. It's the passion that unites us all. one thing mlse actually got right with that slogan.
One thing nobody EVER mentions though is we're all waiting for Tavares off the books...yet we just gave Nylander that exact same deal. Food for thought...We couldn't lose Nylander and had to sign him yet most don't want to sign Marner. Bizzaro world in Leaf land. Nylander goes from 7 million to 11.5. Tavares goes from 11.5 to 5 million. Saving a whopping 2 million is going to drastically Change this team?
If you think Marners 10.5 off the books can change this teams fortunes why can't not spending 11.5 on Nylander and spending that space elsewhere change things? Just seems all like rhetorical repeated thoughts than an actual thought process |

That’s because Tre’s not really in charge and that’s been the overriding problem for a while with both GMs. It’s the reason Lou isn’t still around - and everyone knows that.
Tre’s got permission to do the minor stuff but anything concerning the core 4 is coming from above.
