I think they keep Broberg now. Ty is untested and the D "should " be better with Broberg back. But, for that cap hit! This only happen if Kane goes on LTIR.
Army needs to deal a D if he gets Broberg. |

"Put Evander Kane on long-term injured reserve to start the season, send down a veteran with a cap hit greater than $850,000 — likely one of newcomers Emberson or Podkolzin, or Josh Brown — and the Oilers can retain both Broberg and Holloway and be cap compliant. If Kane comes back mid-season, well, they’ll have to figure things out then."

or send down Ryan......... But I think Brown goes down, but they are in no hurry now. |

Umm, Podkolzin replaces Holloway. Ceci trade creates cap space to match Broberg. Why would this trade suggest both guys are leaving? Genuinely curious since it seems pretty obvious now that Broberg isn't leaving. |

Krug is out for the year. Blues ran with 8 D most of last year, but even if they don't want to this year, I don't think they are terribly worried about losing Tucker or Joseph on waivers.

Not enough though. They still don't have enough room to fit Broberg under the cap. Unless Kane is on LTIR the whole year, the numbers still don't work. Maybe if there is a taker for Kulak, but even then, the Oilers would be down to 6 D-men and almost no cap space left to fit in a 7th.
Edit: Disregard. I really don't understand any of this and apparently woke up too early after a too much drinking. My apologies. |

LTIR Kane to start with. If he's ready to come back after the first of the year, it's likely someone else would be injured and go on LTIR to take his place. Rinse and repeat until the end of the regular season. Stan has had plenty of time the past couple of years to study the Vegas model.

What are you talking about?? A “foregone conclusion”?? How?
So you think it’s purely a coincidence that they’ve dumped Ceci’s salary? Why dump him now, unless you’re planning on matching?

They're gonna troll us all by not matching either, then bringing in Tony DeAngelo as redemption project #8943589 |

This is the correct take. It is also interesting that Broberg is the one to stay who was the vocal one, expressing frustration with the club. Sounded like Holloway was the one who needed convincing to execute the double offer sheet and he likely will be leaving.

It's quite incredible how Eklund's take is possibly EXACTLY the opposite of what is actually happening. Lol

The Oilers should have never tendered these offer sheets. Maybe the players won't sign them. E3+ |

By all appearances, the Oilers appear ready to decline to match the offer sheets, and take the requisite draft pick compensation. It was almost a foregone conclusion that they'd let Broberg go. It was less clear with Holloway until the Podkolzin acquisition.
This amount of inaccurate speculation is impressive even by Eklund standards. |

It’s remarkable how someone’s instincts could be so wildly and obviously off base |

I don't believe he follows the NHL almost at all. As others have stated, this site is just a side project for him that he uses at his own convenience. Doubt he makes any money on it relative to labor hours. Wish he would let someone else run it as HockeyBuzz bizarrely has an incredibly dedicated following. Guess that's indicative of the bad comment boards for the NHL. Maybe only eight teams get regular coverage on this site and 11 are completely uncovered. |

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was reading it and thinking how did he get THAT out of all of THAT. When they traded Ceci and acquired Podkolzin wasn't everyone pretty much thinking, OK, they're keeping Broberg but Holloway is gone. Maybe Ek has got it right and we're all wrong but I sort of doubt it.

Not really, the more inane the post, the more the Dunning-Kruger crowd clickety-clicks away to tell him so. |

So from 2016 was Matthews no.1, Laine no.2, P.L.Dubois. Who will put up more goals in 2024-25?
Dubois 69, Laine 55, Matthews 3. |
