Not really. John Hein came up with that term in the 80's and registered jumpedtheshark.com in 1997, long before he joined the Stern show. - eichiefs9
True - but Hines still works for Stern. And Stern, is who made the term popular. Nobody knew that term until stern started using it and hine joined the show |

I've never actually seen any data to support his claims of that many listeners. Anyone else is free to enjoy the show, I just think his best days are far, far behind him. All the drama between cast members feels manufactured/scripted at this point and I don't think it was nearly as funny as it used to be. - eichiefs9
Agreed to disagree. |

Not according to John Hein himself:
When and why did you start jumptheshark.com?
I started jumptheshark.com on December 24, 1997. The goal was simple: to learn HTML for my day job as partner of a computer-training firm, and to extend the conversation I had with my college roommates about when classic TV shows went downhill. The phrase spread quickly on the Internet, and the press started to catch on a few months later.

That's fine, not implying you or anyone else should dislike the show. I just don't think it's very good anymore. Not monthly-payment-good, anyway.
Despite his legend status, that he's earned 10x over, he's a bit of an egomaniac and I just can't take his word that he's presently drawing those kind of numbers. In the past? Absolutely. |

in Heines dreams that thing would’ve become popular without stetn, please.
And do you think sirius would be paying that much money if he didnt have an audience.?
Stern lost a lot of his audience when he started bashing Trump in 2016. I know plenty of people that will tell you they stopped listening to him because of that fact. Or they would say he became too political |

Looks like tonight's lineup will be:
Kreider - Zib - Smith
Panarin - Trocheck - Laf
Berard - Chytil - Othmann
Edstrom - Leschyshyn - Rempe
Lindgren - Fox
Jones - Trouba
Harpur - Ruhwedel
Slightly interested in seeing what Smith looks like on that line but way more interested in the 3rd and 4th lines (Leschyshyn excluded) |

Agreed.
He's an angry old man now, not that there is anything wrong with that because I certainly am, and just doesn't have it anymore in my opinion. Moved on years ago and every time I tune in it sounds like he's trying too hard. Apparently millions of people disagree, so what do I know? |

I wish they would start posting these lines with Trocheck on top and Zib as 2nd. Not a shot at Zib, but there is always the thought of “they have no top line RW”. Yes they do, it’s Laf. They don’t have a second line RW.
Agreed, excited to see how Othmann, Berard, Rempe and Edstrom do. |

Imo - The people that think he jumped, the shark are usually Trump supporters. Ironically “jumped the shark” is a term from his show - Greschnergy#4
Come on, now. The youngsters here I could let slide, but you are easily old enough to know that the term "Jumped the shark" originates from the ill-conceived episode of Happy Days when their viewership was failing and they came up with a not-quite-plausible storyline where Fonzie jumped over a pen of sharks on water-ski's.
If Stern is somehow thinking he came up with that, he is purely delusional.

I'm younger. Watched Happy Days on Nick an Nite as a kid. Was thinking this and wondering how Howard Stern factored in here as the episode was literally Fonzie jumping sharks |

And you have done a study and took polls to prove your theory???
FYI, Im not a Trump supporter at al, Im in the middle on many issues, I just vote who I think maybe be a better candidate. Im an Independent.
No Jump the Shark was from John Hines, it is reference from Happy Days when Fonzi jumped a shark, thats what he calls the end of a good show or something along thse lines. |

Stern lost me way before 2016, he was off more than he worked and I wasnt going to pay for reruns from the 80's and 90's. |

If you voted clinton in 1996 that doesn't make you in the middle
I'd bet a decent amount of money you voted:
Clinton
Bush Jr
Bush Jr
McCain
Romney
Trump
Trump
That's my guess based on every person i know who's older and makes that "i'm in the middle" claim. Not judging you, just be true to yourself my dude
Separately.... Jumping the shark refers to a show running out of ideas |

Lavi on Victor Mancini: "For me, he was one of the guys that was really noticeable in those rookie games. He’s been noticeable in the scrimmages and practices that we've had with him... He’s big, he’s strong, he skates... I thought he had a real strong showing in Boston." #NYR |

Of course it’s from happy days but it’s using the term to describe something that went from good to bad at a precise moment . When Fonzie jumped the shark happy days sucked after -and that term was coined by John Hines from the Howard Stern show and stern being as popular as he is drove home the term.
Not many people heard of John Hein until he appeared on stern no matter what Hines says |

So hockey talk huh?
It's great that he is progressing. I do believe in having as many D prospect that are viable as possible, since defense progression is not as linear as a forward. I do not think he jumps anybody, however, may end up being a call up and then possibly making the team next year. |

Apparently he played LD in Sweden so there’s always the possibility he could jump past jones. Poor poor Zac jones |

Well then there is always a chance. I would be surprised though.
I really think the Rangers need to consider Othamann in the lineup if he continues to play the way he is. They need a guy that just agitates, hits and scores a bit. If that means moving off of Vesey, who I think has been really good, then so be it. |

That would mean pushing Cuylle down to the 4th line, which i'm not opposed to. They aren't playing Othmann outside of the top 9. |

Dream scenario:
Othmann plays his way onto the right side of Mika and Smith plays with Chytil and Kakko
Likely Scenario:
Smith is Mika's RW at least until the deadline and Othmann either plays on the 3rd line or gets sent down until an injury callup is needed |

That kinda plays into what I was saying though. People aren’t excited hearing “Smith is our number one RW”. A lot more palatable thinking of him as our 2nd line RW. |
