Can anyone remember an NHL GM publicly stating his offer amount in the middle of a contentious negotiation with a star player? I sure can't. Seems like a pretty big story. Also seems like the sort of thing that would get Swayman and his agent to dig their heels in pretty hard.

I remember the Washington Nationals doing this to Harper and someone else. Soto? It was a tactic to try to gain sympathy with the fanbase to show that they were offering serious money, but the player didn’t want to take a “fair deal.” How dare these athletes turn down money that to the average fan is hardly conceivable! That was their edge.
Well, agents don’t care. That’s not their job.
They also failed to mention that a lot of it was deferred. Other teams offered up straight cash. But hey, that’s baseball.
