A little odd. Foudy has been solid in his role since being called up. Maybe they want someone who can fight that’s not a defenseman (Mayfield) in the event a response is needed?

Separately some random thoughts, I thought Pelech had a noticeably good game last night. Not sure if Wahlstrom fits anywhere in the lineup. And I might play Czikas with Bo and Barzal - he had one 30 second shift with them last night and looked confident in the role. Love Holmy but not sure he’s ready for first line minutes.

This from Rosner. Yeah! Engvall.

Per #Isles :

Anthony Duclair (lower body) has been placed on LTIR (retro 10/19).

Liam Foudy has been loaned to Bridgeport.

Matt Martin has signed a one-year contract.

Pierre Engvall and Hudson Fasching have been recalled from loan.

Yay. Revolving door of bad to mediocre players. Ledecky is trying to understand why attendance is so low. 😆

Did anyone else think that MacDermid's hit on Romanov was dirty? It looked like he raised his forearm to hit Romanov in the head. Then I saw Romanov on the bench spitting out blood. I was a little surprised that nothing was called.

I just do not get Martin wanting to continue to play. I get it if the Islanders were a legit Cup team. Why risk injury at this point?

Initially I thought so. When I rewatched it thought it was a nice hit but I didn’t see a close up replay.

Martin is a great guy and was a great Islander. Mayfield having to fight last night doesn’t equate to a reason to sign a guy who hasn’t been an effective fighter in years in my opinion at least. Are we saying bottom pairing defenseman shouldn’t fight now to quantify his signing.

I agree. If the Islanders had a younger fighter in Bridge with more upside, that would be different. Martin just does not have much left.

I was wondering that myself. I don’t follow BP enough to know.

For the record I wasn’t suggesting this was the reason. But that’s alll I could come up with. Mayfield does kill penalties, so maybe that’s part of it? Edit: I guess I was suggesting it 🤣 That’s all I got though.

Not sure how this helps the team. I love Martin and what he has done. This is not the answer. JMO

Believe it or not that wasn’t directed at you. 😆

Been reading it all over after he was signed.

Seriously? You're asking why a guy would want to get paid millions to play hockey for a living? If I had the ability to play in the NHL they'd have physically drag me off the ice to get me to leave.

In fairness, they couldn't ignore Engvall's blistering stat line in Bridgeport, where he's racked up one entire goal and point over six games. Must've been a close call between him and Marc Gatcomb.

The last few years I’d say the vast majority of time Martin should’ve stepped up for one of his teammates he never did. I’m sure that had to do with whatever coach we had at the time and where we were at in that particular game more often then not. But it became very evident when he wasn’t contributing any other way he was the majority of the time a waste of a roster spot. He didn’t keep other teams honest that thought process is just stupid imo with the instigator rule.

I’m sure he’ll step in and have a few fights and revert to what we’ve seen the last few years. If it makes the guy happy I’m all for it I have no expectations this season but to me it’s a clear sign of where this team is at.
