Some reports have us scouting Nashville and vice versa. The rumors have us looking at Defenseman and Nyquist (I don't think he makes a lot of sense for this team if we are going to be sellers).

RW's assessment of Erik Karlsson seems to be right on, unfortunately. FWS, Fat Wallet Syndrome.

The basis of my trade scenario was he still had a desire to play for a contender. Looks like we are stuck with him and his laissez-faire attitude.

I agree that Blomqvist is our best goalie. DK's site has the highlights and some of those goals Jarry gave up are just woof. Be interesting to see what happens. For some reason Ned was getting more starts than Blomqvist and they're going to at least give Jarry another shot, so I'd rather Blomqvist go down and play. Encouraging where he's at though.

Agree Blom is the best tender. I would have given him the #1 star last night. He's had a couple of tough losses where he deserved much better.

Just saw they recalled Jarry. I'm betting he gets some starts. Wouldn't shock me if Blom is sent down.

If this were true I could see Trotz wanting Petts.

I didn't even think of Petts, but he definitely could be who they are after. I was thinking maybe Eller since I read somewhere they were looking for a center.

I know it wouldn't happen, but with Stamkos not being a good fit and Karlsson not being a good fit with us. I was thinking why not do a swap with maybe a few other players involved. One can dream though

The only way the penguins get rid of EK is if dubas throws in 4 1st round picks and money Personally I'd do a buyout and take the loss and keep the picks and mark this as a lesson learned. FSG has the money.

PS..You know I'm going to say this..FIRE SULLIVAN ALSO.

Off topic, I knew the Jets were tearing it up this year, but 14-1, most goals scored, second fewest against. I expected them to be good, but not best start in NHL history good... Good for them.

I think teams still have some value in Karlsson. Just nowhere near the type of value he had when he put up 100 points. My biggest worry is that Dubas talks out of both sides of his mouth. So he wants to get younger, but then part of me thinks he is dumb enough to keep Karlsson. I think he believes Karlsson will be a key player to help us get back in the playoffs. He clearly was a terrible pickup and I feel as though he is part of why we have been so bad.

Petts probably makes more sense for them. Nashville just lacks depth up everywhere. Rackell or Rust would be good targets for Nashville. I think every team could use Eller.

The guy Nashville really needs is Malkin but I don't see that happening. Maybe Karlsson if we retain a bunch. Would Dubas retain $4M on Karlsson in exchange for a 1st and 2nd? I think Trotz would have to think long and hard about that.

As for who we are scouting... Probably looking for the right salary dump.

That's just not true. If they ate half of his deal they'd easily find a buyer. He's a bad fit for the Pens because the Pens are such a sh!tty defensive team as a whole. I can't name teams 'cause I'm not following things closely, but if you're a contender with a solid defensive structure, you'd absolutely take EK for two more years a 5mil per year.

And... Yeah, fire Sullivan 3 years ago. I agree with that.

Tyson was right… *Everyone has a plan until you get you get punched in the face.* That goes for fans too.

The best scenario for the PENS and PEN's fan is to hope (a) Jarry gets back to form and (b) the coaching staff instills a game situation into the players. If both were happening we wouldn’t be ranting and the troll(s) would get back to finishing their homework and possibly make the honor roll.

Filip Larsson gets a shutout… Go-arty scores, Broz is doing well, even Nieto gets one in his game 1. There could be a goalie glut in WB/S and they are 8-3. So Dubas and Spezza appear to have that mission on the right track.

Karlsson only has 2 years left after this year. Can definitely trade him in the offseason and retain salary, but only if a team gives something worth it.

Penguins don’t have to give away picks to unload players, they can simply ride out their contracts during the rebuild. All you can hope for is that guys like Rakell, Rust, Graves, and Jarry actually play well enough for their contracts to be traded without giving up anything.

I don’t think the pens can retain anything until after this season. Karlsson, Rust, and Rakell trades seem like they’d be offseason moves since they come with more money and term.

They can retain salary on one more trade. After this season, Smith and Petry's deals expire and they can retain on two more.

They shouldnt need to on Rust or Rackell. Rack is playing good hockey right now and Rust has a long track record of playoff performance, even if he is dinged up I think teams would be happy having him at $5M. I assume any deal for one of them will include a contract coming back.

Karlsson, maybe a different scenario but we can technically retain on one deal. There are some teams that could use him and have cap space. Have to look at Nashville who has a small amount of cap space and they have 3 1sts and 2 2nds this year and think that they have the assets that Dubas would be willing to retain cap space for.

Blue Jackets claimed Fabbro, so that clears a RD spot for them along with some cap space. Not that I think this will actually happen.

Poulin recalled. Not sure if he plays, but he gives them some flexibility since he plays all three forwards spots. Some guys were not in their best spots last game. Rust, Rackell, Acciari, Pulj, Puustinen are all best at RW so might make sense to scratch one.
