How is NYR in a serious cap crunch? They can extend Shesterkin today and it doesn't impact their cap space this year. Suppose they double his salary to $11M. They will need to find $5.5M space next season. Reilly Smith's $3.75M covers most of it, not to mention a rising cap. Walking away from Lindgren opens up another $4.5M.
Trouba already nixed a trade to Detroit. Moving him mid-season would be extremely difficult. That's something you do in the summer when more teams have cap flexibility. His wife's medical job placement is also over this year so moving him becomes easier.
Also, why is Pitt looking for a goalie when they are going to sell off whatever they can? I would watch Pettersson as the next to move. Maybe Grzelcyk or Beauvillier. |
