thanks. I define imminent as about to happen right away. But Frank means it might happen within a week or whenever.

(frank) Frank anyway.

I agree with part of your post from yesterday, get Lankinen signed longer term, send Silovs to Abby..

I like Crosby but would not really want to mortgage the future for a year or two.

- Makita

You better brace yourself then. The future is getting mortgaged one way or the other. They did it for rentals last season.

So where is this imminent move for David Jiricek that doesn’t involve the Canucks, “according to Frank”

They did, dynamics last year looked better I thought, I hope this year they take a lesson learned approach. Although they really need to upgrade the defence.

I can't decide if the Canucks are in any kind of cup window right now. They only won 1 round last season. Petey only coming out of a long term funk and still needs to find another gear. Our other top 6 C just had a mental breakdown and we don't even know when he's coming back and of course we don't know if there is more to the story or not. How will he play? The team has been better defensively since he's been gone and the PP has greatly improved without his terrible puck handling and his lack of ability at keeping the puck in the zone up high. Our starting goalie is injury prone and been on the mend for 8 months. Who knows what his season will look like. Only last season some people in here were convinced that Silovs was the future and Demko should go. Now people are doing the same with Lank. He's hot... but caution should be applied to that logic.

Then there is the defense conversation. I think the team needs a costly upgrade to sort that out just to get Canucks to play off contender. As the roster stands right now, it's iffy.

Correct. Plus the club needs to be fully healthy to be considered 'in a window' to win.

How many players were swapped out from last years roster? 7?

Different team with a totally different pace this season.

My wishful thinking is the team trades last years world beating hot first half to the 2nd half going into the playoffs instead for this season.

It is so rare that a team plays that good an entire season and playoffs... Canucks were playing good enough to win a cup until the end of January last season. More or less when Petey fell off.

Clearly. That's why his wrist was wrapped and he would occasionally be holding it or rubbing it on the bench.

I suspect that Blankinen has priced himself out of Vancouver.
Another team will give him more money and term than chef Alvin can afford.

Dhaliwal: "Columbus told the Canucks they didn't have the assets for Jiricek.

Canucks didn't want to give up what CBJ wanted. You know CBJ wanted Willander. Do they really know Jiricek is better than Willander? They obviously don't think so or they could have got the deal done"

I’d be open to going all in for Crosby.
It won’t happen, but I’d be into it.

You need a proven top 4D (see Hronek)

Then talk about trading prospects/picks

Miller+ for Crosby+?

Gets the Canucks out of Miller's late contract. Better player. Multiple cup exp. Still playing great. Smaller cap hit.

Gets the Pens a 1st rounder, maybe a decent prospect and some experience and term to fill in the C spot during a rebuild... plus Miller is still producing for a couple of seasons yet.

I doubt they could make it work for both teams and like I expressed earlier, not sure about the window. But like I pointed out, that gets Van out of Miller's late contract as well so it's not just a win this year move.

I also mentioned I'm not sold on this being a legit window as of Nov 27th 2024. That can change in a month + though.

Makes no sense for either team. Canucks don’t need to get out of JTM’s contract with the cap going up so drastically in coming years.

Based on the Miller you have now(if and when he comes back). Not based on the Miller you have in 3 years and beyond. This is only one thing.

Crosby has better mental health as well. Is a better teammate. Someone I'd rather playing with our young players for now.

Pens are shifting to rebuild.
