You don't think he has the Leafs on his 15 team NTL?

BTW, how TF do you get 10 goals, and ZERO assists?!?!

He might I have no idea. But can't imagine there aren't 15 worse places to play. And the potential of line mates has to be above par.

Haha I noticed that, no assists. It's quite interesting. Might be a Matthews or Knies type where they shoot and score more than they set up.

Looked it up. Crazy. Only once has Matthees had more assists than goals, Kreider 6 or 7 years in a row more goals than assists. Guess it's easy to do if you score tons.

Guys... this year feels different.

Tell me I'm not crazy.

- gravyface

You're not crazy. It has definitely been different. It's early, but it's been different. Massive style change ...forwards staying narrow and safe and forcing the other team to make mistakes. So far, it's been easier for the 'tenders - tops in the league at limiting high danger poop. All of that while playing without a bunch of starters.

Baerubae looks like he's got their attention ...the question for me is whether he can keep it.

Still need another C to fill out the roster.

How did those seasons end?

I think many Leafs fans have been deceived into beLeafing the backend was better than it really was early in the season but it didn't work out in crunch time when the goaltending wasn't there to steal games anymore whether it was due to a drop off in SV% or injuries.

The Leafs "being different" also applies to the other teams in the division but in a different direction. The weaknesses of the other teams causing a drop-off in the quality of our competitors will be a big factor.

Boston and Tampa Bay don't look the same and Florida has played two very long seasons, back-to-back. The benefit the Leafs have is their core is younger and might be hungrier than the competition. That's the X-factor to success this season. The Leafs could do better by being exactly the same and everybody else being either hobbled or just worse than previous years.

- Rare_Jewel

So while the argument that they could done nothing at all and improved their standing has some merit, I don't think it necessarily passes muster.

Last year you had Rielly-Brodie with a GA/60 of 2.81, McCabe - Benoit with a GA/60 of 1.84 and Giordano-Liljegren with a GA/60 of 1.73

This year you have Rielly - OEL with a GA/60 of 2.49, McCabe - Tanev with a GA/60 of 1.08 and Benoit - Timmins with 0.59

It's early yet, but each line has shown improvement in the defensive results. One of the observable things is that they are closing gaps more quickly and getting on top of the opposition as they enter. The more time and space you give a player the more they are going to victimize your goalie - no matter how good they are.

I noted last week or earlier this week that February is really when the season games will start to tell the tale - because teams are going to start to separate from defensive coverage and work harder to do so, and at the same time the defensive coverage becomes more swarming. Past Leaf teams have failed in that challenge to keep up that work ethic and the tenacity in their play.

I feel like this team may have more to give in that regard. It's going to take a few months to find out.

Every time a coach decides that the roster should be built with too many role players, they lose. You need some role players in the mix and you need some grit and guys to go the net and guys to mix it up - because it's not like the Tkachuks know how to stop being bumholes on the ice - but if you go overboard you run the risk of being outskilled.

But McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby and Makar is a pretty phenomenal start to any lineup.

On a side note I fell for nonsense. I got a Big Mac combo cause the sign said you get Grinch socks with it. Little did I know they up charged the combo price. I basically paid 17 bucks and had a poop lunch just to get socks I probably could have got for 4 bucks at Walmart.

No.

I already told you circle jerking degenerates he was good when we signed him.

He's had a positive GSAx since 2019. Last year he saved 0.86 goals above average per 60 minutes, which led the league. If anything this year's 0.77 GSAx/60 is a bit of a letdown!

Neither.

I just have a weird obsession about Leafs tickets prices - and I can't stand people who say that tickets are thousands of dollars.

On any Monday-Wednesday, if you wait until an hour before game time, you can get tickets for well under face value.

I post the best deals I can find on Ticketmaster.

Late on this, but iv never been to a leafs game in Toronto. for someone out of town, I cant take advantage of the cheap weekday games. Id have to take 2 days off work to go.

so basically, can go to a Saturday game..which is probably a lot more expensive

Hey Fake, you sure guys don't go out to punish other guys?

You sure opposing players wouldn't try to hit Matthews wherever he tells the press his injury is so that he gets re-injured thus increasing the opponents chances of winning???

Hmmm, something doesn't compute.

- underhill14

Yes Im pretty sure most wouldnt.
You may get the odd one, but I doubt even reaves would target a star players previous injury.
So ya not at all worried about the media finding out about his injury and then "all these NHL'ers" seeking matthews down to re-injure him. Its foolish, this isnt the 80's/90's nhl.

Also, the leafs have a great record without Matthews, not sure statistically it would provide such a great advantage.
