It was hell, absolute hell, I tells ya.

We were planning to go home on Sunday, but the OPP told everyone to stay the hell off the roads.

And then the power went out.

Luckily, my host (was staying at a buddy's cottage) had a friend down the road who had a cottage with a generator, so we decamped to that "cottage" (more of a luxury home) for all of Sunday - made steaks, drank wine and beer, watched 10 straight hours of football, walked the dogs in the snow.

Monday morning Highway 11 was still closed in both directions, so we had to drive due east to Dorset, then down 35 and then work our way to the top of the 404.

10/10 would do again - would just bring more snowpants and higher boots.

Sadly, I won't be able to give you minute-by-minute updates of dwindling Leafs tickets prices tonight, but I will tell you that it will be a bloodbath for sellers tonight.

It's 3 pm, and Greens are already selling for under $100. Golds under $200.

Go to the Keg on York, enjoy Happy Hour, and wait it out. Start watching prices at 5:15 pm. Buy the best deal you see after 6 pm.

I would 100% buy that if I was sitting on heaps of money. I would secretly take it to Lucius Fox and have him replace all of the non-lethal options with lethal options. And I would have it outfitted with the ED-209 voice.

Why the Cory Cross for Fred Modin Trade Was a Good One for the Leafs

The trade that sent Fredrik Modin to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Cory Cross and a seventh-round draft pick in 2001 is often debated among Maple Leafs fans. However, there are several reasons why this trade was beneficial for the Leafs:

Acquisition of a Reliable Defenseman: Cory Cross brought a solid defensive presence to the Leafs' blue line. His physical style of play and ability to log significant minutes helped bolster the team's defense during his three seasons with the Leafs.

Draft Pick Utilization: The seventh-round draft pick acquired in the trade was used to select Ivan Kolozvary, who, while not a star, added depth to the organization's prospect pool.

Modin's Success Elsewhere: Fredrik Modin went on to have a successful career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, including winning the Stanley Cup in 2004. While his departure was a loss for the Leafs, it allowed Modin to thrive in a different environment.

Team Needs: At the time of the trade, the Leafs were looking to strengthen their defense, and Cross provided the stability and toughness they needed. This trade was part of a series of moves aimed at addressing specific areas of the team.

Long-Term Impact: Although Cross didn't have a long tenure with the Leafs, his contributions during his time with the team were valuable. The trade also allowed the Leafs to continue developing their roster with additional draft picks.

In retrospect, the Cory Cross for Fred Modin trade was a strategic move that addressed the Leafs' immediate needs and provided long-term benefits through draft picks. It's a trade that, while not without its critics, ultimately served the team well.

What are your thoughts on this trade?

😆 😆 😆

Provided stability and toughness.

Dude never used his size in Tampa. No physicality at all. Long reach and used his stick a lot, but mostly a tall skinny rangy doofus looking dude. No shot. No offense. Did nothing better than average, at best. Total meat pylon.

Modin gave Tampa a needed scoring boost.

A friend of a friend manages the spending/lifestyles of many pro athletes. Burrow is apparently the most boring and never gets in trouble so I guess he got a free pass on that one

A sign of the times. In the 1970s when I was a kid - let's say I was around 8 and so it was around 1978 - there was a car show where I grew up. They had a Lamborghini Countach at the show - and I had actually been there earlier in the day. Later in the day I was out with my friend (as all kids had to be during daylight hours in the 70s) and the Countach was parked on the side of the road. We ran up to it and the guy offered to give us a ride in it - so my friend and I - individually because it was a 2-seater - each got in and he gave us a ride around the block in the Lambo.

It was a thrill.

If my kid came home when he was 8 and told me he did that, I'd have staked him by a collar to the ground so fast you'd have thought he was Prometheus.

Come to think of it I never saw my friend again. But man it was a thrill!
