So..

How much is Mitch getting paid?

13.5 - 14 million?

Should probably be more than Matthews considering the cap rising, and the fact that he’s a little bit better..

Sciatica flared up this morning. 😔

In a world of hurt. If it doesn't ease up today, I'll have to set a doctor appointment.

Thank (frank)ing god for kratom in this broken medical system.

Pay Marner.

I had the volume off and was playing online poker with friends - why didn't that goal count? Time hadn't expired, right?

Who cares about Mitch’s value til he proves he’s not a wimpy ass loser who isn’t even a PPG in the post season.

Mitch Marner might be the best player in the world.

Factoring his elite defensive game, it’s not out of the question. None of the other pts leaders are even slightly comparable to Mitch defensively.

Imagine hating this guy.

he was always going to get (demand) 12-13, I predicted around 13
i wouldnt change that if I were the leafs, cant pay him more than AM... unless its 8 year deal.

was never a question that Mitch can produce during the reg season.. and even in the playoffs...just not so much in late series games and esp not in elimination games.

shriveling mitch gets squashed when the Leafs need him the most

He literally has the highest PPG out of any Leaf since 2016 in the playoffs.

He's led the team in playoff scoring twice (Matthews has 5 times and Nylander has once).

Marner and Nylander both have 3 GWGs in the playoffs. Marner has 2 in games that could end the series one way or the other; Nylander has 1. Auston Matthews has 6 GWGs in the playoffs, and 1 in a possible series clinching game.

Singling out Mitch Marner for a complete team failure to step up when it matters is just so preposterous for every Leaf fan. We finally have nice things.

And we hate them.

But look, let's break it down this way - because really I think this has never been a Mitch Marner problem and it's always been a system problem.

I use this example all the time and no one wants to accept this because they'll be, "Mitch Marner is nowhere near as good as Kane!", but Patrick Kane doesn't enjoy anywhere near the success he did at the NHL level without a team playing hard behind him and making room and standing up for each other. Sheldon Keefe's Leafs didn't stand up for one another. Smaller guys were definitely pushed around and bullied and if they stood up for themselves the rest of the team stood down around them. We'll see how it all plays out, but there's a fiery characteristic to this team this year where they have each other's back and are fighting back on the ice. We saw just yesterday, for example, that Marner's not afraid to push back because he knows his teammates have his back.

to me its more just about.....getting paid big... and not exactly delivering when the team needs one of the highest paid players to do so.

I think its pretty normal for fans to call out the big guns when over and over...he has shriveled up as the series go on.

Across the past 4 years, amongst skaters with 300+ mins of playoff TOI:
Nylander ranks 12th in playoff pts/60 at 3.06.
Matthews ranks 26th at 2.58.
Marner ranks 44th in the same time frame at 2.33 playoff pts/60

if you isolate games 5-7 in series, its even more pathetic.

if he becomes the highest paid player on the team..expectaions come with it.

JT gets ragged on a lot, but at least he scored a goal to send the team the to 2nd round

Games 1-4 totally don’t matter.

The Leafs would miss the playoff every year without Marner.

He’s their best player.

He’s no $13+ mill guy when he’s only 0.87PPG in the post season.

Other teams can focus more deeply on the leafs game style in the post season and other than a couple decent years Marner has been owned in the post season. Nylander is 0.8PPG in the post season so imo, until Marner proves he’s significantly better than that in the playoffs, he’s only worth about $12 as I’ve always said, and that’s a big if when it comes to choosing if he’s even worth keeping.

If he steps up huge this post season under the new coach, then sure, give him a Matthews-like offer, but otherwise no thanks.

Also btw, Matthews is 0.89PPG in the post season so no, Marner is not the best.

No, the Leafs can't afford to pay Marner what he wants, so they knocked 2 seconds off the clock at the end to prevent him from getting another point.

The numbers there are including PK minutes which Nylander and Matthews haven't done in the playoffs. They are designed to inflame and anger the fans.

At 5v5 in the playoffs it's Matthews 1.83, Nylander 1.81, Marner 1.7, Tavares 1.3.

It's not that stark. Or put more plainly, it's 28 for Matthews, 25 for Marner, 24 for Nylander and 12 for Tavares. Marner has also rolled out with checking lines and late in games to preserve leads.

*sigh*

Matthews has 48 points in 55 games which is 0.87.
Marner has 50 points in 57 games which is 0.88.
Nylander has 43 points in 54 games which is 0.8
Tavares has 24 points in 38 games which is 0.63

I would still like the top 3 to be over 1.

Literally no one hates this guy. Unfacking real player. But when are you going to stop ignoring the fact that the guy shrivels up more than your tiny a$$ pecker in a Pickle Lake polar plunge every single year in the playoffs? I don't give AF about his PTS/gm vs other players, I care about what he's doing in games 5-7 when the series is on the line and teams ramp things to another level.

I'll be the first guy to admit I'm wrong if Mitchy baby carries us deep this year, but he hasn't done fack all for us EVER. I don't give a $hit about the Tampa series, that was an absolute barnburner with all offense from both teams, and everyone was able to pile up a bunch of points. That type of series is VERY rare in the playoffs.
