there is a widespread belief among bidders that Toronto will come in with the highest offer.
There is also widespread skepticism that Soto would go to the Blue Jays — but a source pushed back on that, saying that if a team is involved in the final bidding, Soto is willing
Meh, nothing burger. (frank) the press. They should stop asking players about their PRIVATE injuries. Period. A person is NOT obligated to reveal that to anyone.
Obviously if you tell the press you had your shoulder fixed the first thing the opposing team is going to do his try to re-injure that shoulder. Dumb to think otherwise. - Fakepartofme
This has been debunked by so many players/analysts etc.
Ths isnt the 1980/90's hockey. All these players are friends or hang out outside of the game. No one is going to purposely try to reinjure someone

On this day in 1995, the Red Wings defeated the Canadiens 11-1. Patrick Roy was left in net for nine of the goals. When he was finally relieved, he told team president Ronald Corey that he had played his last game in Montreal

Hakanpaa out with a lower body injury. McCabe won't play tonight.
Rifai has been recalled. I hate to say that I probably would've recalled Benning over Rifai. He's not McCabe but he can at least play physical defense.

For me it's Who and Cares.
I don't know if it's geographical issues or something else but you can't help but feel that Shapiro and Atkins have run this team down. Players talk. I can tell you that the room is not cohesive. The players on that team hate - HATE - Ross Atkins. He's not a baseball guy and he's not respected. Even on a human level - guys are struggling with injury, they'll get a call from Atkins or Shapiro - and it's never, "How are you? How's the injury? How's the family?" . . . it's straight to, "If the media asks you about 'x', you're going to say 'y', understood?"
Baseball players talk to one another - I think those guys are exactly the problem here. Someone like Paul Beeston or Paul Godfrey before him were highly respected by peers, agents and players.
I could be wrong, but it feels like a lot of guys select Toronto either for the larger paycheque or because they have limited options left. Neither of those necessarily involves coming here because they want to win.
Ultimately I don't think they make any progress until Rogers puts on their big boy pants and gets rid of this clown show. - Monkeypunk
I think you're on the money.
I'm struggling to understand how Shatkins still have a job.
Under Shapiro's leadership as a GM/President, his clubs have won precisely two playoff series - one with the Indians in 2007 and another with the Jays in 2016 (losing the ALCS that year, ironically, to the Indians).
He's won 2 Executive of the Year awards (2005, 2007) which, I submit, his reputation has largely coasted off of along with his Princeton pedigree.
As per Atkins, he had no prior experience as a GM before Shapiro handed him the role on the Jays. I have always suspected he's merely a cipher for his boss.
I get this feeling Shapiro exudes an aura of utter competence that has bamboozled the higher ups at Rogers (which is rife with ego and incompetence). At some point, you would think the lack of success and empty promises would force Rogers' hand.
Ken Rosenthal mentioned that Juan Soto (as it was with Ohtani) is a pipe dream to sign with the Jays because the team is in a weird crossroads where they have no long term commitments to their star pieces (Vladdy) and don't seem to be positioned to be a true World Series threat.
TL;DR: the Jays are a (frank)ing disaster and Shatkins is the cancer.

cap implication?
would Benning be claimed over Rifai?
those are a couple reason why.
I could be totally wrong also.

It would have to be cap, but even then I don't think it is - He's $1.15m since we're already eating $100k of his salary in overage - but we have like $2.3m in cap and he's not eligible for waivers as he cleared waivers on November 12 and was assigned to the Marlies. He would be waiver eligible again when he has played in ten or more NHL Games cumulative since November 12, or spending more than thirty cumulative days on the NHL roster.
Ultimately maybe they felt Rifai was playing the best for the Marlies and was just the better choice.

Surprised the Zez-meister hasn't started posting ticket prices yet for tonight's game. Seems like a good one to go to on the cheap.
I'm seeing 2nd deck low rows (one set of row 1's in section 305 which is the end greens) for $167.50 per seat already and it's not even noon yet! - Cush29

$120 per for 3rd row greens.
Other than that, prices are still waaaaaaay too high.
Go to the Keg on York Street and enjoy happy hour. Start looking to purchase at 5:15 pm.
What do the Leafs need to send the other way to get JT Miller, preferably with 20% retained? 2026 1st, 2027 2nd and some combo of salary (Domi, Robertson, Kampf) maybe?

20% retain (1,600,000) should cost 3rd round pick.
So I'm thinking a 1st in 2026.
Just just don't see anyone from the Leafs line up they would give up for him cause I see don't Vancouver taken those guys you mentioned.

Why would Vancouver trade him? They are 9th in the league and 2nd in their division. They project to a 103 point team. Miller is a stick that stirs the drink in Vancouver.
Miller has 6 years left including this one @ $8m AAV. For a team to absorb $2m / year for 6 years . . . when Vancouver has no motivated reason to sell him at all with the cap rising?
Even pretending that Vancouver were sellers and not buyers - we simply don't have pick capital nor strong enough prospect capital to be appealing. We've spent ours - we didn't cash in and now we need to spend a couple of years building some of it back so we can go all-in a couple more times before the window closes.

Man, I went to check some stats on Dahlen in Buffalo and wow. I kinda knew it already but holy moly guacamole....
what a poop group of Forwards! I do like Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson, but they got those guys in trades and they're far from the NHLs elite. What have they been doing besides letting Reinhart and Eichel have the door hit them k the way out?
