I think Drury accidentally nuked his team.

Trouba wasn't a dressing room cancer. He was well liked by his teammates by all accounts I'd read. Krieder is exceptionally well liked by all teammates.

Drury publicly announces that he wants to trade Trouba and Krieder and then does Trouba dirty. Like him or hate him, that's dirty pool - and players take note.

You ever lose faith in your boss - or really your boss's boss? You feel like the leadership couldn't give a rat's ass about you at all. It permeates everywhere. I know you're not really a baseball guy, but I can tell you that one of the biggest problems with the Toronto Blue Jays is that it's a clubhouse divided - more than half the players in that room hate Atkins. A few don't care and are angry at the ones who hate him. There may be a couple who like him, but that part I don't know - I'm speculating on that. How do you get a team to gel when they are divided amongst one another on their own leadership?

I can at least liken it to one group I did work with at my company - they had this engineer who knew everything about the voice network back in the 90s - but he wasn't particularly likeable or personable. They let him go in a round of layoffs and all the other engineers who looked up to him - and maybe they knew almost as much, but they were all more likeable - were so disheartened that slowly they left the company - you had the "slow quitting".

That's what I think has happened to the Rangers.

They almost need to fire Laviolette just to create separation from Drury, but the smart play would be to fire them both. Drury has riding on Gorton's work for years.
