They almost need to fire Laviolette just to create separation from Drury, but the smart play would be to fire them both. Drury has riding on Gorton's work for years. - Monkeypunk
They finished with 114 points last year.
They're in a playoff spot right now.
My initial instinct is that there must be something terribly wrong in the dressing room right now, but this is the Rangers - we would have heard at least whispers right now.
I simply don't know what to think. |

I think Drury accidentally nuked his team.
Trouba wasn't a dressing room cancer. He was well liked by his teammates by all accounts I'd read. Krieder is exceptionally well liked by all teammates.
Drury publicly announces that he wants to trade Trouba and Krieder and then does Trouba dirty. Like him or hate him, that's dirty pool - and players take note.
You ever lose faith in your boss - or really your boss's boss? You feel like the leadership couldn't give a rat's ass about you at all. It permeates everywhere. I know you're not really a baseball guy, but I can tell you that one of the biggest problems with the Toronto Blue Jays is that it's a clubhouse divided - more than half the players in that room hate Atkins. A few don't care and are angry at the ones who hate him. There may be a couple who like him, but that part I don't know - I'm speculating on that. How do you get a team to gel when they are divided amongst one another on their own leadership?
I can at least liken it to one group I did work with at my company - they had this engineer who knew everything about the voice network back in the 90s - but he wasn't particularly likeable or personable. They let him go in a round of layoffs and all the other engineers who looked up to him - and maybe they knew almost as much, but they were all more likeable - were so disheartened that slowly they left the company - you had the "slow quitting".
That's what I think has happened to the Rangers.

Just a funk. It isn't like it has nevr happened to other teams.
Matthews is back from injury so I expect the Leafs are starting theirs now. |

I think so ...I guess depending on how he fares this year.
13 years (everybody seems to get the "to age 40" deal) at something north of $35 per year.
Time to poop or get off the pot ...ie. sign him now or trade him now. |

How does the baseball cap work with aging players?
Can you send them to Robidas Island and have them appear on your cap?
Yes, I realize it's a soft cap, but I'm thinking Rogers doesn't want to be paying out money for a guy sipping mai tais instead of playing. |

The Soto deal is crazy. Big money upfront with player option to opt out in 5 years and hit free agency again at age 31. If he stays, Mets add $ to his contract, bringing it over $800M. |

and they got a deal!
Eno Sarris
The Mets paid less per win for Juan Soto than the Giants for Wily Adames (assuming 7 win projection, no aging until 29, half win after). $11.5 m/win. Amazing.

Sure.
Will he be worth it? Meh Dunno.
Vlad seems to excel when there is nothing on the line...so i guess if the Jays arent playoff contenders for the next several years he may be worth it. |

Ohtani and Soto have changed things.
Vlad getting 60% of that Soto got...seems about right |

I’m not sure that Rogers is in the business of buying wins. They’re in the business of making $ through a combination of what the team brings in and what they make through broadcasting the team.
I think they can make money with an ok or good team and will pay enough for that. There are some players who add enough hype and wins to make a big investment worthwhile. Soto and Ohtani were in that Maybe Vlad will be as well and they’ll spend to keep him. |

We'll see how this plays out. Vlad says he wants to stay in Toronto and play out his career here, and the Blue Jays responded by ignoring Vlad completely and offering a moonshot contract to Juan Soto - who rejected them.
Now they're going to crawl back to Vlad, tail tucked between their legs, and beg him to stay? Good luck with that.
This management team is astonishingly bad.

Ohtani and Soto were generational players - what they changed was length and how a contract can be structured....deferred etc. I dont think every single player gets a huge pay raise. |

We dont know if the Jays havent offered Vlad a deal or that he was ignored. The soto offer could have been their first priority.
But yes, this management team sucks |
