He got a $75m bonus and $50m or so per year for salary - Fakepartofme
His salary grows to $55/year for the last 10 years if he decides to stay. If he doe, he hits free agency again in 5 years and goes for another big deal |

Ya the opt out is key.
IF he continues to play well. |

We'll see how this plays out. Vlad says he wants to stay in Toronto and play out his career here, and the Blue Jays responded by ignoring Vlad completely and offering a moonshot contract to Juan Soto - who rejected them.
Now they're going to crawl back to Vlad, tail tucked between their legs, and beg him to stay? Good luck with that.
This management team is astonishingly bad. - Monkeypunk

I’m not sure that Rogers is in the business of buying wins. They’re in the business of making $ through a combination of what the team brings in and what they make through broadcasting the team.
I think they can make money with an ok or good team and will pay enough for that. There are some players who add enough hype and wins to make a big investment worthwhile. Soto and Ohtani were in that Maybe Vlad will be as well and they’ll spend to keep him. - Canada Cup
the team winning and being good makes money. you can see how quickly fans lose interested in a bottom team.
to be fair, the Jays are spending about 60$ of revenue, which is near the top (mets are not just over 100%)..but they are the outlier.

Ohtani and Soto were generational players - what they changed was length and how a contract can be structured....deferred etc. I dont think every single player gets a huge pay raise. - Fakepartofme
I never said every single player, but the top end guys.. for sure.. esp if you are 25/26yo
adames just got more than any were predicting. it will lift all boats

We dont know if the Jays havent offered Vlad a deal or that he was ignored. The soto offer could have been their first priority.
But yes, this management team sucks - Fakepartofme
It's been like this since day 1 imo.
when they came abord, I lost interest in the team. |

Historically, when the Jays are a winning franchise they have attendance near the top.
And when they are a losing franchise, the Dome is empty most weekdays.
Edit: which is exactly what you were saying. I read your post too quickly.

That's not really true - lots of guys don't say anything and some even ask to leave. But certainly most do express a desire to stay - at least saying standard crap like loving it there and letting their agent work it out or whatever.
But Vlad was quite expressive and passionate about his desire to stay here. I have had issues with his dedication at times, but he started here very young. He just turned 25 this year. There are some excuses for it and you have to hope that last year's performance was a sign of him putting in the work and learning from that success how to maintain it.

They had made some good trades and signings to improve the team.
But things went sideways when Atkins and his analytics team interfered too much in playoff games and then made some questionable trades. The Teo for Swanson trade was horrible at the time and remains so. |

I went to two games this year - both after the Jays were eliminated (first one not mathematically, but out - second one on the final weekend).
Both times were free tickets.
First game, we had good seats but just wandered around to check out the new and improved SkyDome. Best part was they were handing out really good paint brushes at the end of the game.
Second game spent 99% of our time in a corporate box - didn't watch more than two minutes of the game. Jays lost 15-5.
I can't see myself going to a game in 2025. Not worth the hassle of travelling down there, and spending $$$$ for terrible food and overpriced beer. Even if the tix are free. |

and if they stink it up this offseason and the team comes out flat to start...done will be empty.
we usually go to a few games every season even though its a huge deal to get there, and not cheap when you include everything, but last season I turned down every offer to go. and will do the same this season if I feel like they are mailing it in this offseason

Jays averaged 33000 fans per game - top 10 in the league.
I went to several games, bought tickets last black friday - $9 each and I bought some again on black friday for this summer as well.
If the Jays do nothing significant this off-season I could see that average dropping unless the team is does well.
Problem is, its not just the jays that missed out on Soto, its the yanks and bosox as well. They will definitely be competing with the Jays for the remaining high end FA's.
It may be time to rebuild. |

a lot of tickets were probably bought when people thought they would be competing for playoffs. but a couple seasons of crapyness and the attendance will drop to low 20ks
in 2015/16 they were 40kish
rebuild, retool...change directions...one of them

Judge got 9 x 40. No way he can demand more. - drexel
Judge was 31 so age will be a factor.
I don't think any team should spend 450+M on a 1B but some team(s) will.
Put 12x30 on the table and if he says no ...trade him for young OF and/or 3B.

They finished with 114 points last year.
They're in a playoff spot right now.
My initial instinct is that there must be something terribly wrong in the dressing room right now, but this is the Rangers - we would have heard at least whispers right now.
I simply don't know what to think. - Atomic Wedgie
When things go wrong, and you have your leader(Drury) saying everyone is for sale it puts players into a weird mindset.
You kind of wait for it to stop over buying in and digging deep to make changes when it’s piling up.
