Jeremy Laura: Red Wings win 5th straight in OT on Kane’s snap shot

The New Coach bump is evident, but I feel it will stick longer because T-Mac got them playing for each other and guys like Kane is playing a 200 ft game. Compher had a great back check to strip the puck from Giroux on a brekaway!

Joey V got bumped back to Line 4, and scores a goal finally.
Kasper looks good on the top line, but he is gripping the stick too tightly. He has the speed and skill to be there though.

Always happy to see Brady pay for his antics!

Biggest thing I've noticed is the overall hustle and work ethic is much improved. Also, the forwards are finally learning to play a better two-way game. The back-checking is much improved and we're not seeing nearly as many turnovers or odd man rushes coming back into their end.

Something else I see is more aggressive play in their own end. They're not doing that stupid collapsing backwards further into their own end and letting the the other team dictate play and shoot from the points or top of the circle as before. They're finally trying to take away time and space from the other team in their own end and the neutral zone... so big difference there.

In the military, we like to say we're "fighting for our country" but that's not even remotely close to being true. We don't fight for our country, we don't fight for a cause, and we certainly don't fight for our leaders, we fight for each other. We fight for the guy to our left, and for the guy to our right. Great leaders understand this and recognize the culture and morale of the troops are even more important than the battle plan.

Sports is exactly the same. Teams play their best when they are playing for each other, rather than a city or an owner or a coach. This is why the Lions are the best team in the NFL right now. They are playing for each other, there's a bond, a brotherhood that unites them, and if they continue to do so, they'll be champions. I think that's why the Patriots were so great for so long. They brought in character guys who fit the culture, rather than just looking for the best athletes. With every Super Bowl win, they lost great players and great coaches, but they kept on winning.

For me, Herb Brooks has always been and will always be the answer. To get a bunch of college kids, who weren't even the best college players (they went pro) to beat by far, the best team on the planet, was accomplished by uniting the team and getting them to fight for each other. I think the NHL has become so analytics and systems focused, that coaches make their system the team, rather than the brotherhood. I think many coaches are so system focused on their system, that they forget they are supposed to be leaders of men. I think John Cooper gets it, I think Paul Morice gets it, and I hope McLellan gets it, because when it happens, it's a beautiful thing to watch.

I hated seeing him go, but it is a little weird that he’s already been moved around with a sub 1m deal. Love the shot, but needs linemates that can help fill in the gaps. Depending on who you believe, he ended up taking 1/3 the salary he wanted and 1/3 the term and is still being shuffled. No clue where this ends up

I'd be open to claiming Sprong off waivers... if we can find a roster spot for him. But not at the expense of one our younger prospects not getting ice time / opportunities. The guy provides some good bottom six scoring depth. Worse case scenario if he doesn't work out send him to GR. I see he's only played in 10 games so far this year in Seattle. Interesting...

Subordinate leaders can be ham-strung by senior leaders. I’d offer that between you and I, we could ID a whole host of Army Senior Leaders not worth their salt. And the sour taste can easily permeate the whole organization/unit. A battalion commander calling out a platoon leader during a high-level evaluation (External Evaluation - EXEVAL…. don’t wanna bog this down w/STX lanes, etc…) causes that battalion commander to lose credit - someone steps in to fill the leadership void which most-often exacerbates the problem, later, rinse, repeat. Lalonde calling out Larkin, him siding w/OTT last year for fighting back against Perron, etc…. Toxic. You’d hope guys would all rally around the leader who steps up, but….. I think Lalonde lost the room, lost the team. Morale does NOT improve as the beatings continue.

This team is new, energized, focused, supporting each other. This team was good before (although not being lead properly, IMO…), was said here by many of us. Now we see what this team can do. SCPO? Probably not, but a dang sight better that at the start of this season.

Something’s off with Sprong. He could bring the heat when he was on….. but so could Frk. I’d stay the course, let the team mature. We know the gaps in capabilities right now, but let’s see who steps up their game. Feels like the kids are getting it and are playing well….not sure I’d rock the boat right now….

Like i told him, it’s not up to me whether or not he gets censored. But at some point admin will see that quote and several readers have been suspended for way less. I don’t want that happening. Going in and taking out a line is a simple way to keep from getting shut down. Remember, I have rules I have to adhere to as well. I’m just trying to be able let conversation flow without people getting the boot because once that happens, there’s nothing I can do. The more voices, the better.
