Sprong for next to nothing. Before our surge of wins under the new coach, maybe Yzerman would have picked him up. My guess is he doesn’t want to mess with the winning chemistry that is all of a sudden working.

I’d like to see the wings pick up Jonathan Toews. Guess what guys, we are making a playoff push. Getting a solid center man that could play center on lines 2-4 for nothing… that is a gamble worth taking.

I don’t see Yzerman trading any assets for Elias Pettersson. If the wings keep winning, I think Yzerman will stick with his lineup.

I read about Toews looking at a comeback, that’s going to be very tricky. The heart issues he has could be one bad step away from being really bad. He traveled the world to stabilize and I pray he gets to enjoy a healthy life with his family. I have no clue on trades, and even less as to why the mill is churning out names right now

"some combination of Kasper/Danielson/Lombardi plus picks" isn't gonna get Cozens because there has to be at least a combined salary of about $5M going back.

Sprong is a dead horse, one of our prospects being up is a better choice.

Pettersson is out of reach on till the offseason because Van is not going to take back one of Compher or Copp plus Holl or Ras for DRW to match Petey's salary......but before July 1, when his NMC kicks in.

Toews would have to suffer through a PTO with an AHL team now, or a PTO next preseason before anyone would want to sign him.

Short analysis of Sprong:

1. Elite shooter.

2. Great skater.

3. So-so chance creator. He's not really a great distributor (fewer assists than goals, to say nothing of primary assists). A disproportionate percentage of his offense comes from rush offense or turnovers that he buries himself.

4. Completely uninterested in playing anything resembling NHL-level defense. No intensity, poor reads, poor decisions. The complete lack of hustle is especially egregious given how good a skater he is.

Taking emotion out of the equation and thinking in strictly mathematical terms about net on-ice impact, I still kinda think that having a one-dimensional fourth line sniper like Sprong does more good than harm overall. But you have to accept a lot of harm, and it's the kind of harm (lazy, uninspired, boneheaded defense that screws over his teammates) that very understandably drives coaches (and teammates) absolutely livid. Plus I can imagine it's a royal headache for coaches to have to carefully manage his ice time and shelter him for the vast majority of every single game.

Not surprising he wears out his welcome everywhere, even when he's scoring a bunch of goals. When he's not scoring, though ... woof.

Why is it almost impossible for the Wings to get top available players in trades? Vegas has been doing it for years yet they never had a prospect pool as deep as the Wings. They weren't trading their top talent off their roster either in those trades. So why is it they can't trade for some top end talent? Anytime you hear about the Wings trading for a top player it has to be Raymond, Larkin, Seider, Edvinsson going back or a top prospect that's rated higher than anything Vegas ever traded away. Vegas has been doing it with so so prospects and draft picks for the most part. Wings have enough prospects and draft picks they should be able to get a deal done without trading Larkin, Raymond, Seider, Edvinsson or even ASP for someone like Pettersson.

Personally i don't want Cozens unless they take Copp back along with a pick that isn't a 1st or a so so prospect. His production is similar to Copp or Compher with a higher salary with the only advantage he has is age and size.

Detroit's Lines tonight:

Kasper-Larkin-Raymond
DeBrincat – Copp – Kane
Berggren – Compher – Tarasenko
Rasmussen – Veleno – Motte

Defensive Pairings:

Chiarot – Seider
Edvinsson –Johansson
Gustafsson –Holl

Goal: Talbot

As I've said before I really like the 2nd pairing on defense of Edvinsson & Johansson. They're young and have that energy and chemistry we saw in GR when they were paired together. Johansson is that steady / smart stay-at-home defenseman every team needs. He's rock solid most nights. This is their third straight game together... so it looks like McClelland is liking it as well.

WINNING is the biggest attraction for any player. Vegas was a Cup competitor since day 1.

Time for truth....I just drove from VA to SC, rain/ice/snow.....but I'm from MI so these crappy south-eaterners can bugger off on the roads (or, as I saw too much of this afternoon/evening...OFF the roads!). Was watching the game on my phone: Eddy?? Buddy, he's found his reach and how deadly he can be in breaking up plays. The more he learns, the more lethal he'll be.

Good game so far. These guys are PLAYING the game, not WORKING the game. This.....Is......FUN.

Again, that’s why I said these don’t make sense and Detroit doesn’t seem to have the assets. Literally just listed potential “desirables” and the math just isn’t there. There was context there
