Every point not gained is a good one - jd250
every point gained is a good point. coming off an emotional win against the cup champs. 3rd game in 4 nights while Columbus was off.
this is the most resilient team in flyers history. prove me wrong. |

I have no interest in extending him. How many guys have to keep the "culture"? Briere already extended "culture" guys in Seeler and Hathaway. TK would be a "culture" guy. I hope Briere does the right thing. - Trox88

this is the new era of orange. stop crapp9ng on them. they deserve and have earned a chance to show they are different.
the entire group is being judge very unfairly. need to be patient and Danny is showing enormous patience. its all about setting the team up for 26/27 to get the team back in the playoffs and on the right track. |

He has an active stick. When he is confident, he stands up at the blue line and shuts down the rush. I see him more willing to carry the puck towards and below the dots in the offensive zone. My hope is he just stays healthy the rest of the season and plays. It will still be up and down. Hopefully they stop tinkering with PP1 and leave it alone. I had no idea Frost was such a good net front presence on the PP. A pleasant surprise. - Trox88
It's great that he had a solid game. He does seem to be more noticeable of late. More confidently handling the puck and also shutting down plays. As you say, hope he stays healthy and give him all kinds of ice time even if mistakes are made. Really hope that this is a sign of things to come with him. |

His lack of awareness cost them the game tonight. If Laughton can’t be counted on to make a simple play and get a line change he is absolutely worthless. - jd250
Can't wait for Torts to single out Laughton in the post game presser after a loss like he does Frost after a win.

A female Flyers reporter just asked Torts about the Seeler-Drysdale pairing being one of the better pairings in the NHL…Torts looked at at her and said What? she said ”analytically they are”….Torts response….”well that’s your problem”. - landros 2
Lol thats what MJL does, noticed how the coach smirk and said there's your problem
Only ppl that don't fully understand the game rely on analytically just to sound smart, especially to win a argument they fully don't understand.

It is funny they keep carrying 3 goalies under the premise well if Ersson gets hurt again. Like Kolosov cannot be easily sent down, play games and be recalled immediately if Ersson gets hurt again. It seems they are punting on the Kolosov dilemma, which will still be present next season. |

Prime Pronger was one of the best Dmen in the history of the league. Play half the game and control both ends of the ice and with an intimidation factor to boot. As great as Rico was (saw him play live most of his career), he did not reach that level. It was a pleasure to watch both. IMO, there was a decent size gap between the two. - Trox88
Oh i said pronger was better and my favorite, only 3 or 4 defenseman where better then pronger in my opinion, I'm sure ppl might have him in a different place in there own rankings
My point is Desjardins was a hell of a defenseman himself. |

Well, Torts has on many occasions been wrong about what he thinks he sees when he goes back to the tape later.
While I don't think he ignores analytics completely, he has proven time and again he doesn't know how to use them at all. You need to have a balance between what the analytics say and what your "eye test" says. Torts's eye test is locked in 20 years ago IMO.
Torts is committed to his idea how the game should be played and IMO it is way outdated. The results have proven this out over many many years.

or he refuses to use them?
He doesn't seem like a dope so he knows what they represent; I think. to me he just doesn't believe in them much. |

Agree that's a fair assessment, but you don't use them as a talking point or to swing a discussion in your favor, in hockey you can really shield a players weaknesses.
Example if a player is terrible in there own end, then you have them majority of the time in the offensive zone. Yes they still be required to defend if your team loses the draw. But for the most part you are shielding them and makes there 5v5 playroom better.
Example in a different way
Bedard was terrible winning the face-off and was always chasing the puck and in 30 seconds you typically wanna change lines, so if say 15 to 20 seconds are used chasing it makes Bedard easier to defend.
So what to do to change that is have someone else with a better face-off ability take the draws which could lead to Bedard using his offensive abilities more.
Wile i don't look at trots as outdated with his thinking and to some degree he is right, my problem with it is, when a team as weak as the Flyers they play above expectations and this could hurt in the long run.
And the other is nhl players in today's nhl are more prissy and soft |

"as of Tuesday morning, it sounds like there is at least some sort of an acceptance that the Flyers will miss playoffs again." --- from whom?
" Again, I’ll reiterate that the Flyers are prepared to move Ristolainen if their price is met, but they don’t appear to be overly flexible on it. And with two more years remaining on Ristolainen’s contract, they’re in no rush to do so, either. "---so in other words he wont be dealt.
"That brings us to Scott Laughton, who has been tied to trade rumors back to when Chuck Fletcher was the GM and signed him to a five-year contract extension in 2021. Laughton, 30, is the exact type of a heart and soul, depth player any playoff team would be salivating at adding ahead of the playoffs. Much like Ristolainen, the Flyers have the price set very high on Laughton and, while they are prepared to move him for the right price (starting with a first-round selection), I fear they won’t get their asking price. "

Understood. There are also many analytics that try to take in to account the usage and situations. Its a balance. Most of the time they seem to jibe at least to an extent (eye test and analytics) Other times they are way off depending on what you want to see.
For example, Torts seems to think Risto is playing great whereas the analytics say he is the worst defenseman on the team. The opposite with Frost, mainly last season and the season before, where Torts says he was playing horrible but the analytics said he was playing well.
Torts gets an idea in his head and it seems to be very difficult to get him off it in either direction.
But then there are times when they jibe, like with Farabee, both eye test and analytics say he is not playing well.

Very short sample size but if Drysdale plays like he did tonight. Look out. When Drysdale was on the ice at 5 on 5. scoring chances were 17-1 Flyers. 78% of shots taken were for the Flyers and a x GF% of 88.02. That measures shot quality. 50% is break even, above is better quality for your team. - MJL
IIRC Deslauriers had a game earlier this season when he was like no joke 96% xGF% against the Canes. Sometimes everything just breaks the team's way when a certain guy's on the ice. Small samples are wild.
With that said, Jamie needs to show that he's capable of building on these good games instead of the wide variance and inconsistency that he's displayed up to this point. Otherwise it's really hard to say that he's doing anything more than still continually scratching the surface. |
