"as of Tuesday morning, it sounds like there is at least some sort of an acceptance that the Flyers will miss playoffs again." --- from whom?

" Again, I’ll reiterate that the Flyers are prepared to move Ristolainen if their price is met, but they don’t appear to be overly flexible on it. And with two more years remaining on Ristolainen’s contract, they’re in no rush to do so, either. "---so in other words he wont be dealt.

"That brings us to Scott Laughton, who has been tied to trade rumors back to when Chuck Fletcher was the GM and signed him to a five-year contract extension in 2021. Laughton, 30, is the exact type of a heart and soul, depth player any playoff team would be salivating at adding ahead of the playoffs. Much like Ristolainen, the Flyers have the price set very high on Laughton and, while they are prepared to move him for the right price (starting with a first-round selection), I fear they won’t get their asking price. "

Torts basically went public the other day with how much he loves Risto. No way Risto gets moved this season if Torts truly has a say.

Understood. There are also many analytics that try to take in to account the usage and situations. Its a balance. Most of the time they seem to jibe at least to an extent (eye test and analytics) Other times they are way off depending on what you want to see.

For example, Torts seems to think Risto is playing great whereas the analytics say he is the worst defenseman on the team. The opposite with Frost, mainly last season and the season before, where Torts says he was playing horrible but the analytics said he was playing well.

Torts gets an idea in his head and it seems to be very difficult to get him off it in either direction.

But then there are times when they jibe, like with Farabee, both eye test and analytics say he is not playing well.

- MBFlyerfan

That is very true, and totally get what your saying and agree with it.

I thought frost when he wasn't scoring was completely useless, and tend to do to much on the breakout and end up losing it.

But against Florida the analytics says Drysdale had a great game, but I remember him doing a blind pass to no one and causing the short handed goal.

Wile trots definitely is not my favorite coach, I dont think he is as terrible as ppl on hockeybuzz believe he is.

Trots seems to bench ppl that are not necessarily playing bad but hasn't produce, and is more of what have you done lately for me.

they set a high price knowing full well it will not be met.

then danny, the hardest working GM in the NHL, can say he tried and what not.

True, but why not set the bar high

Example ands it's proven in study that once a regular price is presented and you put up sale or lower your asking then ppl think they did a good buy

We will see come deadline where the proof in the pudding is.

If he does nothing then he deserves whats coming from the fans

all I can think of when I hear Frost is that play. On Laughton, crickets.

The players notice this sheet and it'll be the reason they poop the bed at the end of the year just like last year.

He’s petrified of losing a deal and with a completely compliant media surrounding the team he doesn’t have too right now.

Everyone here’s Torts saying something idiotic. Look at him look at him.

high and unrealistic are 2 diff things. GM's won't want to deal with you when they are unrealistic as they don't want to waste their time. .

Well, Torts has on many occasions been wrong about what he thinks he sees when he goes back to the tape later.

While I don't think he ignores analytics completely, he has proven time and again he doesn't know how to use them at all. You need to have a balance between what the analytics say and what your "eye test" says. Torts's eye test is locked in 20 years ago IMO.

Torts is committed to his idea how the game should be played and IMO it is way outdated. The results have proven this out over many many years.

- MBFlyerfan

Tortorella made a comment earlier in the season that he gets a data report after every game. He said he doesn't know what it means. That's not surprising. If he would use the reports, including during games, he would've played the Seeler/Drysdale pairing more than he did last night. They were dominant.

Danny was always clutch in the playoffs. He always came through when the pressure was on. He's just waiting for the right moment to unleash his awesome GMing abilty.

IIRC Deslauriers had a game earlier this season when he was like no joke 96% xGF% against the Canes. Sometimes everything just breaks the team's way when a certain guy's on the ice. Small samples are wild.

With that said, Jamie needs to show that he's capable of building on these good games instead of the wide variance and inconsistency that he's displayed up to this point. Otherwise it's really hard to say that he's doing anything more than still continually scratching the surface.

- Tomahawk

I agree, Drysdale has had a number of games this season were very good and then has plenty of average to below average games. He needs to build on it and stay healthy. He's at least showing some signs that he can be a good player.

Wow coGM really lighting up the phones and putting in the work. They really are takin care of business in the office all day.

The plan seems infallible. Open for business with ultra high prices. Gee how come the merchandise isn’t moving?

- StepfordSam

So the Flyers think Ristolainen's play in their eyes is more than worthy of his contract and Flyers shills like DeMarco are pumping up the tires but it doesn't appear that it's enough to move the needle for other teams to take on the full dollars. If this is correct, the Flyers see it one way but the league sees it differently. That wouldn't be shocking if true.

If the Flyers are willing to retain salary or take a bad contract back, Ristolainen has some value. If not and they want another team to take on the full contract and give up a good return, not much value.

They have adequately replaced Laughton on the roster with Poehling and Cates being able to do most things Laughton can do. They have plenty of leadership as well.

If teams are really interested he should be traded. A second round pick is good compensation for Laughton. I am fine taking something back to get a 1st.

plenty of ways to make it work, I would be on the phone non-stop with the Sens, Read wings, Rangers, Boston, even columbus, there is a team that will finish in the teens, that would value Laughton. A roster player with upside is fine also.

There is not a player that can replace The Room™ stating that it is possible shows that you have no grasp on how important culture is to a team in a full blown rebuild like the flyers

I am currently enrolled in "Culture 101" at the Wharton School of Business. So in a month or two I might be able to understand the magnitude of The Room to a locker room.
