Can you imagine if someone pulls what the Blue's did a few years ago and actually claims Jarry?

We would definitely have some cap space to be aggressive this offseason. Plus it would definitely help us tank.

The best thing for tanking would be to keep Jarry playing though haha

They were tied for a playoff spot last week and its only mid-January. They are in a playoff spot today if the goaltending wasn't so sh!tty. They are only thinking about making playoffs right now.

Dubas is finally listening to this board I see...

He won't get claimed. The only question is whether Dubas retains 1/2 of his salary in the offseason or just buys him out. He just needs to be done here one way or another.

Might still be hope that someone with a bad contract needing a change of scenery calls up but I gather Dubas would have already explored that.

I actually think it is possible for Jarry to go somewhere and do ok. Like a fringe starter or good backup. But a lot of people have been saying since last year that there is a team chemistry dynamic at play too.

Either way, this is the right move.

I get that. I was just saying to the previous comment if you want to tank keep Jarry. Fortunately the east is so weak that they are still somehow in it.

Well Dubas is admitting that Jarry isnt going to get us there and it should be obvious that Ned isnt either. So perhaps he is going to give Blomqvist a chance to turn things around for us before selling. The team has played better hockey since they sent him down so I'm hopeful he can do well.

We were tied for a playoff spot with a pile of games in hand and since then we have lost 3 in a row. Currently:

We are 4 points back of Columbus with 3 games in hand.
We are 3 points back of Ottawa with 2 games in hand.
We are 2 points back of Montreal with 3 games in hand.
We are even with the Wings and Flyers with 3 and 1 game(s) in hand respectively.
We are 1 point up on the Rangers with 3 games in hand.

Given the teams in there, its not insurmountable but I've seen no evidence to make me believe we are going to turn things around and take over all of these teams. Ottawa is going to be buying, the Wings likely buy, Columbus wants to sell but they sure are making a case to not blow things up.

You are probably right that they are not intent on tanking and would like to make the playoffs, but I also dont think that Dubas is making any moves to really improve the team drastically, so we likely end up in purgatory again, where we go on a run for the back half of the season and miss the playoffs by a point.

hahah yeah, this was my most likely outcome this season before it started. Miss playoffs by 3 to 5 points.

Gotchya. I don't want them to tank, I want them to win. I want the games to have meaning down the stretch even if they don't make it in.

According to Yohe, Dubas plans on selling regardless of the standings. The only safe players are ones with full NTC's although they're not in a hurry to sell Rak. He also said the team wants to get a look at some of the kids in WB. His "sources" say expect Dubas to be aggressive in the coming months.

This is largely how I wanted to respond. Even while in it, the Pens were only on pace for 80-84 points. And that's part of a very big pack fighting for a couple spots. Since that would be a historically low pace, chances are that the teams that emerge are going to really lock in and go on a run and play at 100 points pace for a couple months. I've seen no evidence the Pens can be that team this year.

That said, the one way they could was a massive goalie turn around. Asking a bit too much of Blomqvist, but he gives them at least a bump I think. It's probably too late to change Dubas's mind before the deadline though, and if a couple productive players like Pettersson and Bunting leave then I can't see them doing much.

With our D depth losing Petts is a dagger in the coffin. I imagine dubas would be getting a fill in player for Petts as part of any deal.

It's true! With Jarry playing we definitely are a terrible team. Same with Ned. I do question how much it is defense for a lot of it as well.

I have a feeling Jarry may get claimed by another team. Our defense has been terrible and I could see someone with some cap space grabbing him like Utah.

Dubas trying to cover his tracks. A shame he’s arguably a worse gm than hex.

Side note: not sure it’s wise to break into a Russians house and steal poop. I’m sure Malkin has some type of connection to the mob and other bad guys that will track you down.

I hope you are right but I just can't see it. Columbus, Buffalo, Calgary, Chicago & Utah could do it... but not sure why they would do it.

Chicago has two goalies with material contracts through next season in Mrazek and Broissot. Mrazek has somehow been worse than Jarry and Broissot hasn't played a game since signing his contract.

Interestingly both have very cheap buy out's on their final years that wouldn't hinder Chicago at all. Pray that Davidson sees potential for a return to all-star form. They badly need to fix something there because they seem to be ruining Bedard at the moment.

Pretty brutal when it's just hard facts... Dubas has to be one of the worst GMs in NHL history. Not sure anyone has do e less after inheriting more.

I don't know how last offseason we all talked about it on here about how ownership should have pressured Dubas into getting a GM because his deals were bad. Yet nothing was done. Can they really be this blind? They are smart business people who wanna see their franchises thrive and improve. How could they not see that Dubas is stealing a paycheck just like Hextall. He is terrible with a bigger title. I tried to take his side and "give him a chance" a few times, but seriously he is just plain bad. They already need someone new. It's pretty bad when we had some great GM candidates at the time.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he’s one of the few “golden boys” in the league that people will always make excuses for. Just like that article from Seravelli, Dubas has been as horrible as what should have been expected when he signed on and what he showed in his first year.
Looking back already at his biggest trade, just for a little example from a hockey broadcast standpoint (TSN’s trade deadline show) they expected Guentzel to be traded for a 1st and a teams top 1-3 prospect…. As we know they didn’t get a 1st or even a top 6 prospect from the canes….

Being in my 3rd year working in the league now, I have talked with a lot of people that say Dubas can still be a great president but is clearly WAY over his head as a GM.
Hopefully, as I’ve been a penguin fan my entire life, Dubas will swallow his pride, step back and hire a GM.

Pickering to the top four with POJ sliding over to LD is how I imagine they fill in for Pettersson. If they can get a return for Gryz now then maybe they need to add although kind of defeats the purpose of trading him. But right now they have 8 d so while there's a drop off, they have bodies, and Pickering is the long-term guy anyways.

That's just terrible. I didn't even realize how good the kid SJ drafted was playing. I was skeptical about Dubas from the start, but even the one move I liked, getting Karlsson, has been a disappointment.

The team is no longer a bragging right of a multi billionaire. It’s owned by a corporate conglomerate just as interested in the real estate surrounding the arena as the roster on the ice.

I have a feeling that things won't change much even with Jarry gone. When your defense doesn't cover the gaps and allows breakaways, 2-on-1's and 3-on-1's, no goalie is going to help. The Pens issues run deeper than the goaltending, so let's hope this is just the start.
