Vancouver needs help on D. Would you send Cam York for Willander? Maybe take back Deshaurnies for cap related .
- ClaudeFather

Why? Does Willander have a higher upside than York and he is ready to step in now? I am not parting with York unless its part of a package that gets me a true 1D or 1C.

Stepping in now should have absolutely nothing to do with it. Strong right handed prospect, we have Sanheim and Andrae.

Torts today, spoke about Coots, Laughton and Hath giving up the tying goal with under 5 left. Spoke about Farabee back in, Lycksell out. When asked about Lycksell, said it was because he lost 2 puck battles along the boards in the 3rd period. Noted, he needs to be better but not a lot of TOI and still learning the coverages.

HMMM, Maybe Lycksell should have given up the tying goal, would still be in the lineup

- wcorvette

Yes, this bothered me too when I heard it. They bring Lycksell up before their long road trip and then sat him the entire trip, when he could have been playing for the Phantoms at least. Then they put him in two games and expect him to be great? When the team is on the road there is no time to practice, so they healthy scratched him and gave him no practice time, but then wonder why he is making mistakes and not understanding the coverages. Lycksell has got to play and make mistakes, that is the only way he is going to improve and the Flyers can see what they have.

I understand TK, Couts and Laughton are on the ice, but that goal was all on Laughton for being tired, not sensing the back pressure and for not making a simple play and just flip the puck down the ice and get a line change. I would bench Laughton after that play if I really wanted Farabee back in the lineup. I don't think Lycksell hass been handled correctly or fairly here!

Correct, he needs to make a weak turnover in the neutral zone and then casually go for a line change while the other team attacks the net for the game tying goal. Then you will be declared untouchable.

This is an example of how full of poop Tortorella is.

- MJL

On this one I agree with you! I want Laughton so off this team right now ...

just makes zero sense, you can tell Torts likes the kid, the kid has earned the shot, you are sitting someone like Farabee, give him 14 minutes a night and see what you have. Plus, why not give Coots more minutes, along with MM. I get Torts wants to win, but someone needs to save him from himself
- wcorvette

There is no doubt in my mind Torts wants to make the playoffs and is coaching that way. The fact that he has mentioned "pissing away points" several times already is a clue. Briere needs to just trade some verterans, bring up Andrae and more kids and give Torts no other choice. If this year is about evaluating players, they kind of need to play, right?

It would be asinine for the Flyers to trade Ersson. Since Hart's departure, the Flyers do not have a reliable goalie either at the NHL or AHL level, plus they have one goalie (Kolosov) that is pretty much holding the team hostage threatening to go back to the KHL if he is sent down to the Phantoms where he belongs so he can develop. Ersson is the best option the Flyers have currently, and probably for the next couple of years. The Flyers don't have the cap space to go sign a goalie, and it would be stupid of them to do that anyway.

Is it really worth worrying about? I find it difficult to get excited about any of these goalies. Kolosov can sit if he doesn’t want to go down. What difference does it really make?

You are not getting a 1st from anyone for Ersson....as far as a 2nd goes any team interested would be a playoff team therefore it would be a late 2nd. Saying that dont see Ersson bringing back anymore than a 3rd if that. He is an average goalie and likely a backup on a good team

not worries at all

that being said they are doing the player and their organization a disservice by not sending him down. he needs to play.

"Remember when Bill did this blog? We’d get the projected starting lineups, some insight in to the matchups, and a little history like what Behn Wilson did on this day in 1982. Today, we get silly questions about Sam Ersson fetching a 1st round pick."

It seems that Eklund is just posting crazy stuff just to get us to respond. Click bait. We miss Bill.....

He also said Lycksell wasn't sure of some coverages because he hasn't been up with the big club. Which led me to wonder once again why they aren't at least playing the same general coverages/system down in Lehigh? It makes no sense to me and never has. They don't have to play exactly the same, but at least get a general plan going.

Happy Birthday to former Flyer Lou Angotti (1/16/1938)

Bob Froese recorded his first career shutout for the Flyers (1/16/1983)

You’re welcome!

It is quite the drop off in quality and makes me appreciate Bill’s daily work and thoughtful approach on here, that much more. Posting silly hypothetical questions, borders on being insulting. I’ll give props to EK for starting and managing this site, but a dedicated blogger for this team on HB would be nice.

Exactly! This has always bothered me as well. Don't they want to see the players they have playing within the system they want to play to properly evaluate them?
