Boy did that ever feel good.
Loved the push back in the second period, something I don’t recall seeing very often over the previous to administrations! This team looks and feels so different even on a night where they should have lost they found the will between the first and second period to raise their game to another level. Mr. Talbot looked calm and the team seems to have a bit more confidence when he is between the pipes. Kane seems to now be in the zone and slows the game down enough to find an open team mate or the smallest hole in the goaltenders coverage. Raymond, Kasper, Seider, Edvinsson, Berggren all seem to be thriving under the Toddfather and they seem to look better with each and every game. Hell Terasenko even looks like he is turning it around. So good to see them rise to the challenge. Now it’s off to Tampa and the next challenge. |

Kane’s power play goal was unreal. To pick the corner like that, from up in the faceoff circle. He seems like one of the most transformed players with the change. As for Cam, he should probably be able to put his wallet away for a day or so after that one. Still boggles me that Florida had 3 more shots in the 3rd than Detroit had in the game. But the team got a ‘W’, and the power play and PK got the job done. Kasper’s goal with that dead stop handoff from Larkin was a beauty too. |

Too much negativity when they win. They played a far superior team with a far superior goalie, a far superior D core and far superior forwards, and they pulled out a win. If anyone was expecting the Wings to dominate the best team in the league in their own barn, those expectations weren’t rooted in reality.
When you’re outmatched badly, as the Wings were, you have to adjust your system for that game to keep shots outside. Half of Florida’s shots were outside of the danger zone. When you play like that, you're going to get outshot, you’re not going to get a lot of chances, but you minimize the danger zone chances by your opponent and hope your goalie is on. Had to Wings tried going nose-to-nose and shot-for-shot with FL, they would have gotten slaughtered.
They played the system they needed to play to give them a chance to win and it worked out. Great way to start a tough road trip. I took nothing but positives from that game. Chiarot bounced back from a horrendous game vs SJS, and Husso was on the bench. All positives! |

Husso needs to stay planted on the bench. Do not want to see him play Tampa, Dallas or even Philly if it can be avoided. Husso will get lit up like a Christmas tree against any of those teams. Maybe play him in Philly if Talbot really needs a break. Hopefully by then Lyon will be ready to take back the starter role in net and Husso can go back down to GR. |

That’s good feedback. I watched the post game, saw the acknowledgement of issues but the overall vibe is, “next one up”. I want to enjoy every win, the first 10 minutes and the 3rd period were tough. They were playing the champs, for sure. Talbot was right there and the power play was just unreal. Glad to hear your take, just trying to balance as much as possible. Thank you so much for that drop in

I have to go with you on this. Hoping Lyon gets back to form, back to backs in Tampa then Dallas are a lot. The team just seems more confident with the other goalies. |

The mood, even of the press that covers practices/post games, is so much different. You can hear the energy shift. Very cool and welcome |

Thinking about making a run “to” the playoffs, I really think we should sign Jonathan Toews. The only players we could call up, and realistically have some certainty of what we are getting are Austin Watson and Big Elmer. We are very thin on D.
I think we are in the mix for the playoffs. Team chemistry is key. What do you think as we approach the trade deadline? |

Honestly, it feels like a long shot to the post season. I have a genuine concern about Toews and that’s his long term health. It’s now been pretty well documented that he literally went around the world to heal up holistically and get through heart and other issues. He now hasn’t played at the NHL level in years. Kane got a hip resurfacing and rehabbed for months, obviously a big difference. If you remember Pronger getting hit in the chest with a puck and getting wheeled out on a stretcher, or Jiri’s heart issue and how close those came for guys that were still in the mix.
Players are being made available, more each day. Seth Jones name has been bandied about with teams inquiring, Pettersson out of Pitt, NYR could be sellers, Vancouver may move a player or two etc and so on. The team chemistry is so much better, for sure. If Cozens could be gotten, wow. If the Pettersson in Pitt or the one in Van are both available and can be gotten, another wow (and a lot of juggling of $). This still feels like a team that will be fighting for the wild card spot. If an upgrade at center or on the blue line can be made, make it for sure. I watched part of Ottawa/Washington last night and the Sens look fast. They lost in OT 1-0 but had the Caps on their heels. Montreal and Columbus, Florida, Tampa. By the time you get to those 2 wild card spots i don’t know where this team lands. Several teams all looking for the same upgrades and willing to spend assets Detroit may not be. |

Good stuff, Jeremy. As long as we are playing like this, are are in the hunt, and that is all that matters. Now feel like we can build a winning culture.

I am right there with you. I may not love Babcock, but there was a moment with Tatar that hit me hard. It was on a live mic. The Wings lost, and Tatar was hanging his head. The coach said, “lift your head up. That’s not helping anyone”. At first I hated it. Then I saw this team’s body language. It felt like every answer in an interview started with a sigh, like a leaky tire. Now, you see concision, assessment and a group that believes they have something they can work with and toward. McLellan walks the tough line of saying tough things and also wanting the players to enjoy moments. The team needs both sides of that. Sometimes the coach has to hit the brakes and peel a little paint, and sometimes the coach knows to let the room be and the players work things out. I’ve never gotten a straight answer yet on the break in that, it’s just something some coaches have a good feeling for. The new team looks like they want to be there. |
