Boy did that ever feel good.
Loved the push back in the second period, something I don’t recall seeing very often over the previous to administrations! This team looks and feels so different even on a night where they should have lost they found the will between the first and second period to raise their game to another level. Mr. Talbot looked calm and the team seems to have a bit more confidence when he is between the pipes. Kane seems to now be in the zone and slows the game down enough to find an open team mate or the smallest hole in the goaltenders coverage. Raymond, Kasper, Seider, Edvinsson, Berggren all seem to be thriving under the Toddfather and they seem to look better with each and every game. Hell Terasenko even looks like he is turning it around. So good to see them rise to the challenge. Now it’s off to Tampa and the next challenge.

Kane’s power play goal was unreal. To pick the corner like that, from up in the faceoff circle. He seems like one of the most transformed players with the change. As for Cam, he should probably be able to put his wallet away for a day or so after that one. Still boggles me that Florida had 3 more shots in the 3rd than Detroit had in the game. But the team got a ‘W’, and the power play and PK got the job done. Kasper’s goal with that dead stop handoff from Larkin was a beauty too.

Too much negativity when they win. They played a far superior team with a far superior goalie, a far superior D core and far superior forwards, and they pulled out a win. If anyone was expecting the Wings to dominate the best team in the league in their own barn, those expectations weren’t rooted in reality.

When you’re outmatched badly, as the Wings were, you have to adjust your system for that game to keep shots outside. Half of Florida’s shots were outside of the danger zone. When you play like that, you're going to get outshot, you’re not going to get a lot of chances, but you minimize the danger zone chances by your opponent and hope your goalie is on. Had to Wings tried going nose-to-nose and shot-for-shot with FL, they would have gotten slaughtered.

They played the system they needed to play to give them a chance to win and it worked out. Great way to start a tough road trip. I took nothing but positives from that game. Chiarot bounced back from a horrendous game vs SJS, and Husso was on the bench. All positives!

Husso needs to stay planted on the bench. Do not want to see him play Tampa, Dallas or even Philly if it can be avoided. Husso will get lit up like a Christmas tree against any of those teams. Maybe play him in Philly if Talbot really needs a break. Hopefully by then Lyon will be ready to take back the starter role in net and Husso can go back down to GR.

That’s good feedback. I watched the post game, saw the acknowledgement of issues but the overall vibe is, “next one up”. I want to enjoy every win, the first 10 minutes and the 3rd period were tough. They were playing the champs, for sure. Talbot was right there and the power play was just unreal. Glad to hear your take, just trying to balance as much as possible. Thank you so much for that drop in

I have to go with you on this. Hoping Lyon gets back to form, back to backs in Tampa then Dallas are a lot. The team just seems more confident with the other goalies.

The mood, even of the press that covers practices/post games, is so much different. You can hear the energy shift. Very cool and welcome

Thinking about making a run “to” the playoffs, I really think we should sign Jonathan Toews. The only players we could call up, and realistically have some certainty of what we are getting are Austin Watson and Big Elmer. We are very thin on D.

I think we are in the mix for the playoffs. Team chemistry is key. What do you think as we approach the trade deadline?

Honestly, it feels like a long shot to the post season. I have a genuine concern about Toews and that’s his long term health. It’s now been pretty well documented that he literally went around the world to heal up holistically and get through heart and other issues. He now hasn’t played at the NHL level in years. Kane got a hip resurfacing and rehabbed for months, obviously a big difference. If you remember Pronger getting hit in the chest with a puck and getting wheeled out on a stretcher, or Jiri’s heart issue and how close those came for guys that were still in the mix.

Players are being made available, more each day. Seth Jones name has been bandied about with teams inquiring, Pettersson out of Pitt, NYR could be sellers, Vancouver may move a player or two etc and so on. The team chemistry is so much better, for sure. If Cozens could be gotten, wow. If the Pettersson in Pitt or the one in Van are both available and can be gotten, another wow (and a lot of juggling of $). This still feels like a team that will be fighting for the wild card spot. If an upgrade at center or on the blue line can be made, make it for sure. I watched part of Ottawa/Washington last night and the Sens look fast. They lost in OT 1-0 but had the Caps on their heels. Montreal and Columbus, Florida, Tampa. By the time you get to those 2 wild card spots i don’t know where this team lands. Several teams all looking for the same upgrades and willing to spend assets Detroit may not be.

Good stuff, Jeremy. As long as we are playing like this, are are in the hunt, and that is all that matters. Now feel like we can build a winning culture.

I am right there with you. I may not love Babcock, but there was a moment with Tatar that hit me hard. It was on a live mic. The Wings lost, and Tatar was hanging his head. The coach said, “lift your head up. That’s not helping anyone”. At first I hated it. Then I saw this team’s body language. It felt like every answer in an interview started with a sigh, like a leaky tire. Now, you see concision, assessment and a group that believes they have something they can work with and toward. McLellan walks the tough line of saying tough things and also wanting the players to enjoy moments. The team needs both sides of that. Sometimes the coach has to hit the brakes and peel a little paint, and sometimes the coach knows to let the room be and the players work things out. I’ve never gotten a straight answer yet on the break in that, it’s just something some coaches have a good feeling for. The new team looks like they want to be there.

Jeremy, You mentioned some trade bait, but the only "supposed" links to Detroit have been Cozens and now Ryan Lindgren. I like both players, but Cozens has been playing a lot of wing lately, I guess to try and get him going, and has a lot of term and a bigger cap hit so you darn well better be knowing what you are getting. While Lindgren is a LD that plays the way that the Wings really need for Seider, but can he stay healthy and can the Wings re-sign him at a reasonable salary and term???
I am OK with getting a LD and putting Chiarot on the RS and sitting Holl/Petry mor often. But Gus, is not an inspiration either. The coach yelled at Holl, but it was Gus that made that pass to Holl who was in front of the net and got immediately stick checked into a giveaway that resulted in a goal against! Shooting that puck up the boards or back behind the net and up the other side might have been a bit safer.

Honestly, FLA got beaten by the Wings. There were problems, and they remain. We all know that. But this team is just exponentially better than earlier this season. It's good to see, so much fun to watch.

LOVE "The ToddFather", methinks this should stick! Well played.

Now, let's be honest; this team COULD make the SCPO. COULD. Is this the team to make the SCF? Probably not. Seriously, I'd like to see the SCPO, and hope we make it......but seeing the change in this team is the thing I've wanted to see. I'd offer that if we play the same style of adaptive hockey, this team is going to hammer the Eastern Hierarchy.....teams are taking note now. Let's see how this plays out.

Couzins would ve nice, but sure to have to pay a price (yeah, I got rhymes...). Elmer needs to step it up and let us see what he's got. If we can trade off some of the vets at the TDL for assets? I'd pull the trigger regardless.

Gonna be an interesting watch, regardless!!

If you want to avoid getting too hyped up about this team right now... and getting your hopes too high... all you need to do is look at their remaning schedule. That will bring you back down to Earth very quickly as their schedule is the hardest in the NHL. This team will most likely NOT make the playoffs. I hope I'm wrong... but I doubt it.

I’m reading how Mikko Raantanan (sp?) may not sign in Colorado. Is there any conceivable way that the Red Wings can sign him next year? I know he would be the highest paid player, but is there any conceivable way it could happen?

I really don’t know what’s going on. I have a feeling that once the cap$ is known for sure we’ll know more. Walsh “guaranteed” the cap will be over 97m. The % against cap may be the sticking point. Last summer we saw a lot of players/agents going off of a cap that will break 100m in the next couple years and future %

There have been other “links” but the sources are 50/60/70 so not something to print. It sounds like Yzerman has been working the phones. A blue line upgrade would be big. Even though Cozens is on the wing in Buf i feel confident he could grab the #2C spot in Detroit fairly easily.
