Looking at the Bruins you see a team that made a good run over the years. Even if they make the playoffs they neither have the team or the assets to strongly improve and make a run. They would be out within two rounds. Next year this team will be around last in the east without fresh blood.
The Bruins will be thrown into the same bucket as Pittsburgh a bottomless bucket. Get that sinking feeling. Perhaps the need for a rebuild like the Rangers or Montreal have moved forward with. Right now the cupboard is empty and retooling will only be possible with assets especially picks. But beware the Sabres have been on a 15 year rebuild without success. |

Maybe they should.
But if there's a sliver of chance they can reap 2+ home playoff $$ they probably will not be sellers.

You think so? Honest question. You think they want 2 games of playoff money with the potential to miss say 3 future years? Or is it more looked at, bird in the hand vs 2 in the bush?
I think they should stand pat for the most part until summer to make bigger moves. Maybe something can be done at the deadline but I don't any big trades happen.

They should have started the rebuild previous year after Bergeron and Kreicji retired for good.
Just making the playoffs and getting revenues from at least 2 home playoff games unfortunately has been the priority. If missing the playoffs gets Sweeney canned, I'm fine with that.

I cant see the GM making it beyond this season if they 1. miss the playoffs and 2. Mess up the trade deadline
I think the Bruins did a solid job of extending their window and getting good players in the system. It worked. Need some top center talent though and Coyle ain't it.

Bruins need to start running out some of the younger players to kill off these games. Whole lot of puck watching at the end of the game. š |

Blowing a 5-3 lead against a divisional rival with < 5 in the game is just brutal.
They need to give up any plan of squeaking into the playoffs and just SELL. Anything and everything.

Yeah I was not a happy camper on Saturday. I almost turned off the game going into OT. My hat was not happy with being launched. LOL
They aren't playing good hockey for three periods right now and they haven't "squeaked" into the playoffs in any of the previous years. They are capable of playing much better hockey than they are. Things can still change in the next few months.
They will likely make some hockey trades at the deadline. This year is showing that the skilled role players were far more important than you guys thought. IE, Jake Debrusk, Heinen and Gryz. They went slow and lumbering over quick and skilled and it is not paying off.
Simply put. Sacco needs to trust the entire team to close these games out. Especially the younger legs. He can't just run Coyle and Marchand into the ground at the end of these games. Put in the players that will show more desperation to make plays. Kastelic, Beecher, Brazeau etc..

For "squeaking in" I was referring to this year. Currently they are outside looking in, and there is no chance they are taking one of top-3 positions in division. It's wild-card or bust.
I'd rather see them start selling off assets for a REAL rebuild - counting on winning it all from the wild-card position with THIS team is just fantasy.

I mean, bottoming out isnāt happening and it feels like thatās the only āreal rebuildā in your mind. The team is drastically different than it was three years ago and they are in the top third in the league based on average age.
They rebuilt and went with the biggest lineup in the NHL and it aināt working (in the regular season)
The teams core is locked in for the next 5 years so selling wastes Pastas prime years. Isnāt happening.
As noted by the Patriots, this fan base isnāt capable of being patient enough for a rebuild. |

As much I would like a tear down, you're correct. The city simply can't handle that. Just not emotionally mature enough for it. Pitiful and pathetic honestly.
A retool is the best and only bet. However, the front office needs to be terminated and should not be allowed to continue. You had 10 years, stayed competitive, kept the window as long as possible and came too close to a cup.
However, the on ice product is now poop, the prospect pool is poop and the draft history is poop. This is not the group that will create a bright future. As currently consitutued this organization has no future. |

Also Edmonton before them. There is always the chance a rebuild can be bungled. The draft is also not a guarantee. It is really is a crapshoot. Hiring the right people is paramount. You look at all those years in Edmonton and now Buffalo. They kept recycling heros of yesteryear and not true, intelligent and shrewd Hockey executives. |
