The Penguins have many Problems and moving assets to pick up another mediocre goaltender--when they already have Ned and Jarry--makes little sense.
Instead, they should be trying to pry as many draft picks as possible away from teams. But I dont trust GM Kyle Dubas to do that, given the underwhelming haul he got from Carolina in the Guentzel deal. |

Last I heard, Jake McCabe is still on the chart, and he signed an extension MONTHS ago. So don't hold your breath
What do you think of the new and improved website after the... er... outage? |

And them having lots of cheap prospect goalies to try out. If he was a rental there's along shot maybe but even with half his salary eaten, they won't need that contract for 2 more seasons after that. They have young talent to get into that spot.
Swap straight up for Jarry? Maybe but would Seattle consider that? He's slightly cheaper but more term.
The Penguins have 4 games to prove they have a chance at the playoffs. They won't, and it will be some small form of firesafe with at least Pettersen and maybe other top players. Likely some of the minor ones like Grzelcyk as a rental. |

We'll trade him for Cal Peterson. Retain the difference in Salary, enough to make it work, and your problem will be off the books two years early.
He's never done well in Seatle, but he could do with a change of scenery. Flyers could use some stablity in net if it works, if not, kicking the can down the road. |

Could make sense if they sway Jarry for Grub. Change of scenery could do both some good. |

No reason for PHI to do this. Unless it is art of a package to add Wright or maybe this seasons 1st. I dont think it makes sense for SEA to be that aggressive meaning I dont see a likely deal here. Flyers would also probably have to be willing to move Konecny.

I don't think either set of fans are excited about that possibility but it would be better for the goalies and for the fans.
From a Penguins perspective, we'd be gaining because Grube has 1 less year on his contract. |

They dont have to move assets though. Could be a 1 for 1 swap Jarry for Grub. Change of scenery could be good for both Gs. PIT takes higher cap goalie for shorter term and SEA gets longer contract for smaller cap hit. Theres benefit for both.

I see it as a possible win for SEA too because Jarrys upside is better. SEA is trying to be a more relevant team. If they can get Jarry to at least play well enough to be a backup goalie it benefits them. Jarry has a lower cap hit too so it creats a little space they can use to make the team better.

Some fun with numbers...
Pitt is on pace for 77 points. Last year, the East wildcard team made it with 91 points. That was the lowest total since the conference format.
For Pitt to get to 91 points, they will need to finish the year at a 115-point pace. In other words, they flip the switch right now and replicate what a team like Winnipeg has done all year. So Pitt instantly becomes a top 2 team in the NHL. And if they do all that, then that gets them to 91 points and hope this is enough.
It makes perfect sense why they would be buyers. Particularly for a difference maker like Grubauer. |

Maybe a difference maker like Khudobin is on their radar? |

Now the trade discussions intensify. Maybe it doesn't happen. But the teams are talking. If Grubauer gets hot the Pens could win 23 of their final 29 games.
