Patience? They have once again traded youth for older vets, no matter if its an upgrade or not, its the same circle over and over again. This organization has no patience.
You make it sound like they are on a hot streak, 5-4-1 in their last 10 isnt a hot streak.
Transforming this team into what? Older thats right - Brukie
Look I love Fil, and I hope he pans out, but the injury risk made it likely he would be dealt. His value is diminished because of that. If Miller brings the edge they lack and need, as we have seen so far, it’s a solid deal. I dislike giving up the first and wanted them to squeeze Alivin as he had no choice but to deal Miller.
On D. I didn’t want Mancini to go. But they like Fortescue more than him and are high on Emery. Robertson basically has little value to them. Maybe they can deal him for a 3c. |

Take the same package, and trade for someone younger is all I’m saying. Trading a 1st (18 years old) Mancini (22 years old) and Chytil (25 years old) for another 30+ year old, inspires little IMO. |

You weren’t getting the same package because Fil’s value was depressed. Did you want Zegras, because he might have been available, though that package might be viewed as an overpay |

I would’ve been fine with Zegras. Yes, before everyone starts with “But Miller is better than Zegras” I AGREE. But I’m thinking long term, not short term. This team isn’t built for the Stanley Cup.
We have players that have reportedly quit on the coach
Our top guys are Soft East/West guys
We need to upgrade our defense
Our top 3 centers will all be 32+ next year (and on the decline) with Kreider turning 34.
Etc etc
This isn’t getting fixed in 1 off-season. |
|
|
|
Panarin Miller Kaliyev
Cuylle Trocheck Laf
Kreider Zib Smith
That’s how I’d come out of the 4 nations. Tell the 3rd line just concentrate on shutting down the opposing team. |

I was in favor of moving Zib down but now I think he needs top 6 minutes. 10 pts in the last 10 games, if he keeps close to that pace the odds of him being moved to a team he’ll accept a trade to goes up. Sheltering his minutes and putting him in a defensive role where he’s struggled essentially guarantees you’re stuck with him.
Don’t agree they can’t retool enough this offseason. They aren’t baron on prospects, and have players who can recoup more. If two of Zib, Kreider, and Panarin are moved not only will they get pieces back, but they can buy in free agency. This season has sucked but the outlook isn’t as bad as you’re making it out to be. |

I said Miller is an upgrade over Fil but like you said, didnt want to give up a first or Mancini. Miller only wanted to come here so we had some leverage.
Miller makes the team better but this team appears to be a 2 line team now and is a ship wreck on defense.
They may make a run to make it into the playoffs but a first round exit is likely. |

Panarin isnt getting traded, they need a name to bring people in, who knows if Zib will accept a trade, he knows he doesnt have to do anything. CK20 will be interesting. |

I am not sure about you all, but I am hoping this season is a fluke. However, I am getting a feeling that if Drury does not shake this team up, then they will be in competitive purgatory. Meaning, appearing to have what it takes to compete and doing enough to get to the playoffs, however, never enough to be a real contender.
This would be maddening to me.
I kind of hope we sell off some pieces. |

Hahaha!
'Cause Buffalo media makes it impossible to be a Bill's fan.
...and, when I took a real interest in football in the early 90's I loved the Philly defense led by Reggie White, and the electricity of Randall Cunningham. |

Zegras is the exact type of player that we could buy low and needs a change of scenery. He’s 23 and already had 2 60+ pt seasons. That’s 2 more 60 pt seasons than Laf has ever had. |

Don't get your knickers in a bunch. There hasn't been much going on for us to get into fresh, new debates. The team shows signs of life and then goes right back to the same, uninspired play. I'd assume that's a major reason traffic seems to be down here. We talked about all these problems ad nauseum. It's not you any more than anyone else in this regard. |

Exactly. He could be in the running for worst defensive player in the league. Not quite what will solve our problems. But, he'd be a shiny, new toy, I guess. |

The problem for me is this core. Agree with Vally they have pretty much checked out. As much as I didn't like the Miller trade, not cause he isn't a good player, I could see it working if Zib is gone next year, same to a lesser extent Kreids, and having Miller be the leader. |
