A cmon at least we can count on that dangerous line of Jarvis, Hagel and Cirelli. I know they are not Tavares, Scheifele and Hyman but I’m sure they are doing wonders for ticket sales and scarring the crap out of the other teams.

Seth Jarvis - 45 points in 49 games, 89 PK minutes
Brandon Hagel - 62 points in 55 games, 110 PK minutes
Anthony Cirelli - 42 points in 53 games, 113 PK minutes

John Tavares - 45 points in 48 games, 1 PK minute
Mark Scheifele - 63 points in 56 games, 7 PK minutes
Zach Hyman - 32 points in 50 games, 0 PK minutes

First group has 68 goals and features three penalty killers.

This is not the huge gap you think it is.

That may be true, but I don’t recall to many teams determining a game plan on how to shut down the other teams penalty kill!

It's called versatility. None of these guys will be on the PP. None will be getting top 6 minutes. So what kind of forward do you want on a 4th line getting 12 minutes a night? You want a guy that can take a faceoff, kill a penalty, get the puck in deep and get a stoppage for an o-zone faceoff.

Same reason why US chose a guy like Larkin over a guy like Caufield who wouldn't make the top 6 and has zero versatility in a bottom 6 role. Ek had a whole blog about that "mistake" without understanding how to construct a team.
