Can you enlighten me as to why this post would be banned? Would really appreciate a response so I can know why this type of post isn't allowed.

He should have been gone so they could have a tannkish season. They win just enough not to be in the top 5 for a pick.

They need a good 10 game losing streak and then after the deadline he should be out. And OUT OUT. Not in the front office. Send him out and let him go on tv or something.

I would already be reaching out to David Carle in the back channels and let him know the job is his once the Denver season is over but for now there doesn't have to be any distractions.

Clear out Risto, Laughton and really whoever else outside Michkov and get on a nice ten game losing streak. This team is a lot closer to the bottom then people realize.

From the STH town hall on 2/21:

Keith Jones just said what the most important thing was to try and rectify for the #Flyers organization was to make it a place that players would want to come to play, like it was when he was a player

One person asked if they might look at making an offer sheet to an RFA this offseason like Vilardi, Johnston, McTavish, Knies. Danny and Jonesy kind of smiled at each other and Danny said that it’s certainly something they won’t be afraid to look at.

Another brought up @TheAthleticNHL poll where 38% of players said they wouldn't want to play for Torts. Danny + Jonesy basically said it's because Torts is tough and they probably aren't interested in the types of players who couldn't survive him

Someone referenced that very few recent Cup winners have dmen under 6'0," we have three, and if they think they need to get bigger. Danny and Jonesy said yes, they need to get bigger and they are cognizant of this. Danny later clarified that he doesn't really consider York a small dman because he's ton of muscle, 200+ lbs, and plays strong in defensive zone.

Charlie O'Connor followed up on sub-6' defenseman question by saying:

This has been asked a lot of the Flyers braintrust recently. I asked Flahr in my prospect interview series, Brad Shaw was even asked it today. The consistent answer: Yes, we believe it matters long-term. We're going to let the small guys compete & develop here for now, though.

At this stage in his career, Torts relies a lot on his assistant coaches. He seems to let this asst coaches handle their areas, almost like coordinators in Football. I like this approach, but that means Torts has got to have great coaches. To this end, I would like to see Rocky replaced. The Flyers need a new voice on the Power play IMO.

how the hell do the flyers make this an attractive place for players to want to play? That excludes 29 year old free agents who want that retirement contract and job for life.

If they ever start winning like a true cup contender that will be the main piece to attract players. Then have a head coach who knows how to coach the modern game.

Of course they don't want players that don't like Torts. Those players are elite offensive guys. they would rather have the try hard 3rd/4th line types.

Just a totally rudderless organization on a road to nowhere. My guess is whoever they draft with their 1st rd pick will have size. Assuming they dont get a top 3 pick.

Just shows you who is running this team when you still see rocky employed.

Maybe. But i want to the whole thing cut out. All three have been a group of losers since being in Philly. Fair or not.

With this FO the coach really does not matter -- they over value their own players at the detriment to the future

Just by that one win against Edmonton the Flyers moved from 6th place in tank-a-thon to 9th place. I think Briere's moves or non-moves at the deadline will tell us what he plans to do. Trading Risto and Laughton, maybe Poehling, and flipping Kuzmenko would get the Flyers picking in the top 5. But if Briere does not make moves, his 7 draft picks will not really have a lot of value since this is not a deep draft. Does Danny then shift focus and move players at the draft, or does he go the FA and offer shoot route to augment the team he has? I can't see Risto's value being any higher, as much as I love him, I would move him.

Philly is 5 points out of a playoff spot. They are playing .500 hockey. With the roster they have, I wouldn’t expect more wins. I actually think Torts coaching helps the team beat better teams. I do agree that most kids probably don’t want to play for torts, but I would have traded for him when we were dealing with Derek Lalonde… in a heartbeat.

I can see it now. They are going to wait to long to move Risto and Laughton. Other teams will move on and get their holes filled somewhere else. Front office will then say trades are hard.

what you fail to consider is this a 3 pronged conglomerate. Danny can not make moves on his own. All 3 have to buy in or at a minimum 2 to 1 vote.

It would not surprise me at all to see torts do an end around and go right to Hilferty at some point to get more control or plead his case on who to move/not move.

Do you have proof of this? People keep saying Db can't do things on his own but provide no proof.

My guess is this will be Torts last season behind the bench. If Mike Sullivan becomes available, probably first choice. Next choice could be Jay Woodcroft. I do not expect a serious run at David Carle or an assistant coach.

yes I do. common sense. Can you give me even a half rational reason why Rocky is still employed?

Or is Danny just incompetent? either way it doesn't bode well.

Dollars to donuts no one gets moved

The reasoning is that no one met the asking price and they are not in the habit of giving away players for below market value

By the looks of the current corporate structure, I doubt the GM could make any coaching changes even if he wanted change. The current HC reports directly to the Governor (Hilf) along the with the GM and President of Hockey Ops. So Torts has control over his staff with only the blessing from Hilf. I'll be curious if this current structure stays in place with a new HC.

You do it at the end of the season or let the final year play out.

That benefits no one. Can do more harm than good.

You either extend him or let him go end of year.

I don’t think Torts is the type of guy to have front office aspirations. He’s always been a, hands on approach guy.

it has been reported that he wanted off the bench to move upstairs in Colombus and the GM told him to pound sand
