This is a no risk move for Yzerman. If he doesn’t pan out, no draft picks are lost which inevitably would be needed for a trade involving a serviceable center.

Toews shouldn't need cap space cleared to sign him, although everything I've heard is that he won't try to sign with a team until the offseason

Nothing to do with DET, but for PIT, thoughts on Karlsson with say $3M retained (so his cap his is about $7M/yr for 2 more years) for Mavrik Bourque + 3rd nest year OR for Bichsel and a 1st next year?

Possibly a team like ANA could get involved to reduce that hit a bit more...
