Really love Edvinsson. He and Seider are two cornerstone pieces on the blueline

I actually prefer Compher centering the 2nd line over Copp. He's a better playmaker and more dynamic / versatile. He just needs to start putting up some points. Nice to get a regulation win on the road against a really good team. Did not like seeing them have to play from behind though. They need to keep scoring first consistently if they want to actually make the playoffs.

One of the things I've always disliked about sports reporting, is the focus on the negatives more than the positives of each game (I'm not referring to you Jeremy). I browsed through the stories written about last night's game, including NHL, AP, USA Today, Hockey News, Freep and MLive, and I think all but one framed it as it being surprising that the Wings didn't blow their lead and actually won. Is that going to be the story line now? In their past 24 games since MacLellan has been coach, they blew a two-goal lead exactly twice, which were the first two games out of the break. In those games, Wings have taken 5 of 6 points. Two of the games were against a top six team and one was over a team that had won four in a row and 7 of 10.

The stories seemed to dwell on the fact that they were down by two after the first period. Well...the game has three periods, not just one. MN is a really good team with some studs. They had FIVE players play in the Four Nations Cup, three for Sweden and two for the US. Fans should be ecstatic that the Wings got three of four points from them after playing three games in four nights and beat them in their own barn.

I don't know about the rest of you, but for a team that has only four legit NHL caliber d-men (two of whom are basically rookies), a young front and are pretty hard hit by the injury bug, I think they're doing fantastic, and WAY better than I would have thought they'd be playing right now. I felt like the Wings were still another year or two away from competing for the post season, but here they are again, right in the thick of it after a horrible first half of the season. Just a few months ago, we were all writing this year off and we even started talking about possible lottery picks.

Anyway...I think the Wings have earned some positive coverage, but coverage still seems to dwell on the negatives over the positives.

I think it's great that the negative is highlighted and we're buried in all the headlines. I hope other teams don't take the new DRW seriously. Stay under the radar and continue to win any which way. This is a transformed team since the coaching change - you can see it on ice for a full 60 minutes. Love it!!

Jan, thank you so much for popping in! In Edvinsson’s draft year I did a video where I thought he’d be off the board. When Detroit got him I was shocked. His skating was, i thought, really good at 6’4”. Then he grew 2 inches in the next 3 months! I do like what I see in he and Seider quite a bit. So cool to have you stop by!

Agreed. Copp has had a boost since the coaching change (along with everyone else) but Compher seems more creative. Was a fun win, to be sure

At the end of the game, I think it was Ken who gave the stat. 17-5-2 since McLellan came to town. That is baffling. I think the turn around has felt surreal but yes, it seems like it gets harder to just get coverage and someone’s personal opinion of the team. I’m a blogger, so I get to show some bias because it’s nowhere near a national release. Try to be fair and call balls and strikes, but get excited to see the team do well. Was going through stats around 6 this morning. Edvinsson has averaged over 20 minutes this year. Of course Mo gets the most at 25+ and a lot of D zone starts. A lot to like, and 5 of 6 points in 3 games over 4 days since the break. Good stuff

Just the way they walk and talk. None of the “zombie” interviews and slouched shoulders. Copp got hurt jumping into a scrum to stick up for a teammate. Very different feel in a short time
