Maybe they’ll be dead tired from travel and playing the Avs.
Then they play the Canucks and they can’t lose on Sam Rosen day
Get that elusive 3 game winning streak - Slimtj100
The Leafs have every bit as much ability to lose a game as we do. Don't place bets on that one until it has started. No telling which team shows up on both sides! |

Because you're talking about cap %, fine you're not wrong about teams with star players. However, fortunately for other teams, especially if were going to talk about the recent ones, many of them had 2 things going for them:
1. Either old/existing contracts that wouldnt necessarily be affected by a frozen cap.
2. Star players on LTIR.
Because at the end of the day, were talking about this current core relative to the teams that have went on to win the cup.
None were as cap strapped as we were because of timing. So when we talk about contracts, Id put an asterisk next to it because we had our backs against the wall in terms of roster maneuverability. - aecliptic
My point was simply that it’s really weird to me to look at it through the lens of “we should replicate the fact that past winners did not have 100 point scorers” instead of what you just basically said. I wasn’t addressing anything you said at first

The Oilers are making this argument more valid. You almost don’t want too many of them (100pt players) because it will throw your cap out of whack. They lost two really good players to offer sheets because they’re paying 2 guys crazy money. I wonder if they could lose Bouchard to an offer sheet
I think this all started with me trading Panarin and can they win without him. I think we can now, as opposed to maybe 2-3 years ago. All we need is for some of these kids to blossom. Like Cuylle did. That’ll will put us in a really good position moving forward, if our 3rd line would score consistently. |

I think Jenner is a guy they should go after.
What about, Panarin for Jenner and their first rder. CBJ needs to hit the cap floor, they mentioned before they are the lowest salary team in the NHL
Jenner centering two kids could work out great. Othmann, Berard and Perrault NEED to be 3 of the 4 middle wingers next season |

I get it, just because it hasnt happened recently doesnt mean it cant be true and using it as a reason to not go after the best players in the league is silly. I get it. |

I wanted Jenner like 4-5 years ago before they named him Captain. No shot they trade him, I think he is too important to the fabric and identity of the team. |

I was gonna mention, you have to figure they want Fantilli and Or Werenski to start leading the team. And as I mentioned, they need salary. They’d probably droll over the idea of getting Panarin
I wouldn’t want Jenner for a young player tho. Panarin, or hell maybe Kreider
Speaking of CBJ, devils just put b2b goals on them. 2-0 Devils |

I don’t think so. All of those teams had 100pt players, just not in the seasons they won the cup. Don’t think there’s any correlation there. Star players being star players in the playoffs wins cups. Yes, you need balance but you need your best players to step up when it matters most. Thats been the Rangers problem with Panarin, maybe the wrong 100pt player. |

I go after Ryan McLeod, as others have said, for the 3C role. Hes a RFA starting to get into the prime of his career, I doubt he would want to resign in Buffalo. |

The COVID thing does matter tho. Oilers got screwed imo. Broberg and Holloway are the exact kind players they’re missing. They had to pay these 100 pt guys. I bet they had to let them go because Bouchard will get 10-11 million bucks now |

You think Panarin is drooling to go back to Columbus because he has to approve it. Also, if Columbus needs any reference point about what happens when you trade a captain... especially one who was drafted by them and has stuck by them through and through, they can look to NY. |

I’d think a lot of Russians would help. They have a whole line of them I think Breadman would approve CBJ yea |

I think this year he’s a good reflection of the teams season. High hopes, just having a bad year all around and trying to find their game now.
For better or worse he’s here and as long as that’s the case, let’s get the best out of him. Play him top PP and top line minutes. His swagger comes when he’s confident and he hasn’t been confident all season. |

Ill be honest, I wouldnt trade Panarin. I would trade Othmann (and Kreider) before I trade Panarin. Were well beyond logjammed at LW. Heres my thought process..
We trade Othmann+ for the rights to Ryan McLeod and Alex Tuch
LAF, Miller, Zib
Panarin, Trocheck, Tuch
Cuylle, McLeod, Berard
Edstrom, Carrick, Rempe
BUT BUT BUT... CUYLLE HAS BEEN OUR BEST LW FOR MOST OF THE SEASON...
Good, now we get 3 lines that will bang. |

Having 2 dmen on the roster under 6’ also hasn’t produced a cup winner in 25+ years either.
I’m not saying that can’t be broken; and I’m not saying bc MacKinnon has 100+ pts COL can’t win a cup.
What I’m saying is, it’s a good idea to have a big defense and it’s a good idea to have 3 scoring lines vs a perimeter 100 pt player. |

I’d take that any day over Fox Urho and Jones |

Well, they have the parts to make it happen. Question is, (lets say they make a play for Chychrun at 1LD) is it adequate? |

Well they have 1 goal in their 3 games
31 teams would love to have Panarin on an expiring contract. Half retain on it? Thats like gold
